What's It About?
In RAYMAN LEGENDS DEFINITIVE EDITION, our hero has been asleep for a hundred years, which has given his enemies time to run amok in the forest. Waking up, Rayman begins his quest to save his captured friends and restore the forest to the friendly place he remembers. He does this by smacking bad guys as well as running and jumping through sadistic obstacle courses normally reserved for Indiana Jones movies.
Is It Any Good?
Though the original version came out four years ago -- a lifetime in video games -- this version of this clever 2D side-scrolling combative platformer is just as much fun as the original. In Rayman Legends Definitive Edition, a slightly altered version for Nintendo's Switch, our hero has to run and jump his way through the same kind of obstacle course-like world as Mario and Crash Bandicoot. Though he also has to punch, kick, and slap bad guys who have taken his friends hostage. All of this gets increasingly difficult and complicated as players progress though the levels, especially if they take the time to look around for the numerous secret challenge rooms.
As for what this version adds, it really just takes advantage of the Switch's unique abilities. If it's played with the console as a portable machine, you can enjoy a section called "Murfy's Touch," where you get to replay the levels with the system's touch screen. This also lets you play co-op with someone sitting next to you on the couch. Otherwise, though, the Rayman Legends Definitive Edition is the same challenging and clever game that gamers have enjoyed on other systems for years.
