Amazing game! All things that make it 17+ are disablable!

It's a really good Introduction to dungeons and dragons, has a lot of inclusivity and teaches many lessons. The reason taht this game is 17+ is due to the nudity and violence, the nudity can be completely turned off and you are asked if you want nudity on when you first start the game up, also the violence isn't that much. Amazing game but not for under 12's

Amazing, yes it contains nudity but that can be turned off.

This is an amazing game that my 15 year old son has been loving! It does contain graphic violence and nudity but those can be turned off incredibly easily and includes great role models. Amazing pathway into dungeons and dragons and if your child/children want to get into dnd and enjoy video games, buy them this. It's very easy to get into and very accurate to dungeons and dragons. You do not need to play the previous two games to understand/enjoy this game, the only things that are the same are the world your in, it's a 100 year gap between games, so nothing is relevant from previous games.

Personally I believe this isn’t for a younger audience though most sexual content, meaning implied sex and implied oral sex, as well as nudity is entirely optional and can be easily avoided. The game has a nudity filter so if you aren’t comfortable seeing any nudity or 18+ content but you intend on romancing characters you can still play the game the way you want comfortably though one character is completely romancible without any implied sex scenes. You aren’t going to see any 18+ content if you aren’t going to romance anyone even if the filter is off. The game can be bloody at times and has many dark themes such as racial inequality, and overall cruelty though the game handles it very tastefully, as it does with most content in it. you should also take into account the amount of blood you’re ok with your kid seeing. Personally I wouldn’t recommend giving this to anyone under the age of 13 for gore and dark themes though my two sons and I, age 15 and 13 are enjoying the game with the knowledge to not romance characters other than Wyll.

Great game and a content filter!

This game has a great story and is definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I thing a teenager could definitely play it if the content filter is turned on and they have played pretty much any rated M game before.

Good story, but some troubling themes.

Excellent story. Some games are rated 17+ out of an abundance of caution, but BG3 well deserves its minimum age rating. Sure, it has nudity, sex and violence, but it's really the way the game rewards the player for morally dubious (and unequivocally evil) choices that worries me as a parent. I've played 100 hours of this game, and enjoy this immensely as an adult, but I'd recommend parents give ample guidance to their teens who play it. Not an insignificant amount of gore as well (there's a particularly graphic torture scene that I had to skip scene for). Edit: One more issue I find disturbing is the abundant use of suicide as a solution. Several times during the game, you are able to persuade people to kill themselves, and (spoilers!) you are also given the option to kill yourself at one point if you change. I find it disturbing particularly that it pushes the idea that not all life is equal and some lives deserve to be terminated just for being a different species.

Appropriate Age Varies Wildly Based on Game Approach

It's difficult to give a specific age rating for this game because it varies wildly depending on the characters and storylines with which you engage. Nudity/sex can be toggled. Playing a good character, even if romancing a (tamer) companion, would probably be fine for 13+. Playing the Dark Urge origin, even as a good character, forces you to explore things like loss of bodily autonomy, graphic violence, and generational abuse that I wouldn't recommend for less than 16+ (seriously, Dark Urge is NOT FOR KIDS. This is the game mode that 80% of the content warnings stem from). Most companions' stories also explore very dark themes such as physical, emotional, and sexual abuse; unbalanced power dynamics in relationships; religious trauma and violence; racism that ranges from casual intolerance to genocide; and mental health issues including depression and suicide. The manner and degree of the player's engagement with these themes depends on their engagement with that character's story. The main story itself also requires the player to experience (and overcome) many issues that mirror these themes. One character in particular has an extremely abusive background (in every conceivable way) that, depending on player choice, can result in him continuing the cycle of abuse with the player trapped in a relationship with him as a victim. On the flip side, his story can also end with you helping him break the cycle and begin the slow journey towards healing. This is the crux of the game: you can be as good or evil as you wish, but your actions have realistic, sometimes wonderful, sometimes horrific, consequences. It explores very mature themes with sensitivity, nuance, and grace, but that means things can get brutal. It could be a great opportunity to discuss and explore mature issues, or it could be innocent fun, but be prepared for your kids to encounter themes and concepts that they may not be accustomed to seeing shown so frankly, honestly, and transparently.

Easily game of the year! Suitable for adults and teens

This game is amazing and can definitely be played by teens if the content filter is turned on. Also any romance in this game is completely optional as well meaning even though there is a filter you might not have needed it because you may not have stumbled into the romance with the right combination of in game decisions. The violence in this game is on par with other games of its rating and nature. But this game is basically D&D 5e The video game, it pretty much leaves what want to do, up to you.

Good game for adults…kids on the other hand.

Me and my husband play this game, and we both enjoy the creative freedom! It’s an incredible spin off of Dungeons and dragons. Unfortunately I would not recommend this game for children under 15 or 16 (With censorship on). With censorship off it is definitely an adult game. At the beginning of the game- Oh my goodness gracious. If you have censorship off they have anatomically correct genitalia to pick from. This is only one example of mature content amongst many others. Alcohol is shown multiple times, there are romance options, sex scenes, swearing, religion worshipping, violence, and a vampire that seemingly flirts no matter who you are or what censorship you have on. In summary: Great game for adults, Not safe for kids.

Great fantasy game!

An 18+ rating might be a little too exaggerate. The violence is animated, and if your kid is used to this, they should be fine. The sex and nudity can be turned off from the beginning and the rest is pretty mild, nothing too much for a 15-16 year old.

Age rating actually depends on the playtrough and game choices: - If you're playing lawful good character with disabled nudity and gore - 9+ - If you're playing a maniacal serial killer and Bhaal spawn Dark Urge - 21+ Otherwise, your average 9 y.o. kid can live through some mild swearing and optional nudity
