What's the Story?
In WILL YOU BE MY FRIEND?, Little Nutbrown Hare is restless and wants to play, but Big Nutbrown Hare is too busy and says he can go play by himself as long as he doesn't go too far. He scampers off to explore and finds his own reflection, his shadow, and then a Cloudy Mountain Hare named Tippy. The two dig and chase and play hide and seek until it's time for Little Nutbrown Hare to go home, happy that he's found a new friend.
Is It Any Good?
This sweet little picture book is great for families to snuggle together and read, and a lovely reminder for early readers that caring adults set limits to keep them safe. Little Nutbrown Hare's confidence in both heading out on his own and in approaching a new friend to play can inspire young adventurers to do simple things like dig and play in nature, and to reach out to people they don't know. The illustrations in Will You Be My Friend? are delightful: bright, soft watercolors that bring a sense of happiness to the pages.
