Way to scary for little kids (I have read it when I was 4 Year,s old)

Roald Dahl wrote books in a different era, and we must appreciate that the life he lived he wrote. We do not need to edit these classic stories, we do not need to adapt or change his texts. We just need to educate our children. People used to smoke, in the witches the Boys grandmama smokes a lot, so I just often did not read that she had her cigar in one hand while doing another task. I did not completely omit it. Overall it is silly, fun and typically Dahl. Our children need to be 'guided' into reading and Dahl certainly is entertaining for all children, he is a great stepping stone into more elaborate stories. The language is mostly familiar, he often writes his 'baddies' with very descriptive language and this is a very useful tool. Good quality and fun descriptive writing is not easy to find. He creates his own words and opens up this world with unlimited literary possibilities.

This entertaining novel is full of surprises for young readers, though some are pretty scary. As in so many of his books, Dahl creates a fantastical world in which an innocent child sees right and wrong, and solves problems, more effectively than many adults. Dahl also has a knack for inventing original, compelling characteristics, so that his witches aren't just mean and scary, they're uniquely weird. Fortunately, the witches' creepiness is counterbalanced by the warm, charming relationship between the young boy and his cigar-smoking Grandmamma; they make a great team. Kids who have enjoyed other Dahl novels will certainly enjoy The Witches, especially if they like the thrill of getting a little scared.
