What's the Story?
Set in the time before they became a powerful together, El Toro and the other wrestlers start their training to become luchadores in TEAM UP: EL TORO & FRIENDS. Their teacher at Ricky Ratón's School of Lucha trains them in strength, discipline, patience, and more, and they are each skilled wrestlers. But the final test is to defeat the teacher, and the group learns that working together makes them more powerful than any of them are by themselves.
Is It Any Good?
Action and teamwork take center stage, and this fun, silly graphic novel finds a way to blend English and Spanish throughout in delightful ways that engage young readers. Team Up: El Toro & Friends is great for early readers, with a simple plot, repeating sight words and lots of context clues in the eye-popping illustrations. The themes of teamwork and perseverance are lovely, reminding readers to work hard on their own skills while also looking for ways to become even better when they work with others.
