What's the Story?
In NANETTE'S BAGUETTE, a frog mom sends her cute little frog daughter, Nanette, to the bakery to get a baguette. "Is Nanette set to get the baguette? You bet!" Nanette is proud to be on her first solo errand but gets distracted and almost forgets, but finally the baker, Juliette, "gets Nanette the best baguette yet." Once it's in Nanette's hands, she can't resist and gobbles it all down: "This is as bad as it can get. ... Maybe Nanette will move to Tibet." But she gathers the courage to tell her mom what happened, and her mom forgives her and gives her a hug, and they return to the bakery and get another baguette.
Is It Any Good?
This funny adventure succeeds thanks to its adorable main character, lively cartoon-like art, a relatable dilemma, and entertaining wordplay. Kids will love shouting answers to the many questions in the text, such as, "Is Nanette set to get the baguette?" "YOU BET!" screams the type of the facing page.
But there's more to Nanette's Baguette than fun and silly rhymes. There's also the touching story of a kid who's afraid she'll get in trouble but who comes clean anyway and is forgiven. And, after all, who can resist a delicious baguette just out of the oven?
