Hilarious, entertaining story about a lovable pig is fabulous, but better for older kids.
I first read Mercy Watson when I was very young, and adored the illustrations and funny situations. My parents always laughed way harder than I did when reading this book, though, and as I've gotten older, I can understand why. While this book is definitely funny for all ages, it's absolutely hilarious when you're older. The illustrations are really funny. One of my mom's friends didn't like the book because of how old people are drawn in the story. And I can completely understand that. Eugenia and Baby Lincoln are ridiculous looking, and most of the adults in the story are pretty terrible and not very smart, which makes the book not ideal for younger kids who might not understand that the story and characters are SUPPOSED to be funny, ridiculous, and unrealistic.
VIOLENCE AND SCARINESS (0.5/10)- Though the scene where a bed falls through the floor may scare kids and make them worry that their bed could do the same thing, it's supposed to be more funny than scary.
WHAT AGE CAN A KID READ IT? I said ten and up because kids older than ten will find the story funnier, but there is nothing that makes this book super inappropriate for younger kids. If your kid has been begging to read it, six and up is probably OK, but have talk with your kid about the negative way that adults are written in the story.
In conclusion, Mercy Watson to the Rescue is a funny, great story that's best for older kids, teens, and adults.

A Breakfast Story
Mercy Watson is filled with breakfast sayings and Mercy's hunger for toast. It is a happy and funny book. I like that it had a happy ending.
