Great book, sad reviews from parents

The reviews from parents are terrible. I read this book 2 years ago (I was 10) and didn't find it confusing at all. Most kids know what transgender is. If someone doesn't know what transgender is, this book would help them understand it. If someone dislikes transgender people, this book could even open their mind. The fact parents think 8-11 year old would be really confused by the idea of someone not identifying with the gender they were assigned at birth is just sad. I hope when I'm older I won't think of kids that way. Sorry for the rant, but I think the reviews from parents are really misguiding and wrong.

Way to inapropriate

My summer reading was to read this and few other books. I am 12 and i found this book inappropriate because of references to the male private part. This talks a lot about transgender and sexual references. Then my 9 year old sibling asked to read so I said sure. My parents had to explain what porn was and they were upset with the school for recommending this book.

No

Look, I have not read this book, but a lot of people have. I'm going to high school next year, and I attended a K-8 school for 7th and 8th. Both years I worked in the library and last year, I worked with some of the 4th graders. This IS NOT for them. I am so glad that my library does not have this book there.

So, this book is seen as "to inapropriate for kids." My awnser to that is, it is not. Now, it is inapropriate for children below 11 if the child is mature 10 even. It shows how it can feel to be young and getting some thoughts that could be seen as "bad" and "not ok" but these thoughts are completley ok. I would recomend this book over Are You There God, Its Me Margret, as that book does not explain any feelings and just promotes religon. This book overall is a pretty good choice for explaining how pre teens are feeling and that it is completly normal

Great book to read with your children.

This is a perfect book to read with your children. It can be used as an introduction to what it means to be transgender. I will say, it is definitely a kid level book, and is written in a way for kids to understand, which is not 100% accurate.
