They persevere through obstacles and show resolve. The kids are forgiving and honest. Occasionally, the heroes allow their anger to drive their decisions, but friends often help them think clearly. Most positive role models are young adults; adults have caused many of the problems the teens work to undo.

Male and female characters of all ages appear in powerful roles, both positive and negative. Characters use skill and motivation as basis for deciding who tackles conflicts as they arise—not gender, age, or magical capacity. There's discrimination against witches by non-magical people and vice versa (possible parallels to real-world forms of discrimination). But both groups include individuals who act with kindness and empathy, as well as those who are narrow-minded and violent. Two young men admit feelings for one another and begin a romantic relationship.
Parents need to know that Hooky: Volume 3, a graphic novel by Míriam Bonastre Tur, is the finale in this popular series. Originally published as a webtoon, the story follows twins Dani and Dorian as they work to save their friends and bring the kingdom together. Violence includes giant monsters, dragon attacks, and epic battles with wands and swords. Characters are possessed by evil creatures and fall under death-like spells. There's little blood, though some drawings are dark and creepy. One enemy is forced to drink a potion that destroys her magical abilities. Romance is limited to some kissing, flirting, and embracing. Two characters get married for political reasons and date others on the side. Language includes a few mild insults such as "idiot" and "coward." The story promotes an end to war as well as tolerance and working together for a better future.
As HOOKY: VOLUME 3 begins, three years have passed since Dani became Queen of the Witches. Dorian is missing, possibly dead, and it's up to Princess Monica, Nico, Damien, and Prince William to rescue Dani and discover Dorian's whereabouts. But with antagonism between the magical and non-magical people still simmering, the team must seek allies in the furthest reaches of the land. With enemies dogging their every step, romances and feuds rekindled, and magic spells so strong they seem impossible to break, the heroes must dig deep to find enough courage and perseverance to bring the kingdom into a new era of peace.
The last installment of this series is everything fans will hope for, with a heartfelt conclusion to the ongoing war that first brought the Wytte children and their allies together. Hooky: Volume 3 wraps up the overall story in a satisfying way and gives each character the attention they deserve. The characters are older, and they've grown, both physically and emotionally. It's strange, at first, to see the characters drawn with young adult bodies, but with slightly more romance in this edition it helps that the characters are older and more mature. The marital choice that Monica and William make is understandable in the context of the story, but especially for younger kids, the complexities of their decision may not be clear.
With the same carefully crafted artwork as the first two installations, this edition brings the story to life, using color and facial expressions to communicate more depth than the words alone can deliver. There are some panels that have so much going on it's hard to follow, and with so many characters, who's saying what can get muddled. But the messaging in the story is powerful, with themes of peace, tolerance, forgiveness, and fortitude. It's clear that author-illustrator Míriam Bonastre Tur put a great deal of heart and time into the entire series.
