What's the Story?
In the EYEWITNESS series, each book gives the facts about a specific topic. The books cover everything form natural disasters to Shakespeare to ancient Egypt to space exploration to cats and dogs and more. Each page has several pictures, timelines, and paragraphs of detailed information -- even parents will learn things. The first books in the series were originally published in 1988 and have been updated many times since, and the series is still going strong with multiple titles by various authors. They're the go-to library source for young kids' research projects, and they're captivating for curious minds.
Is It Any Good?
These books are engaging ways for young readers to learn about nonfiction, and the variety of topics means that everyone will find something -- often many things -- to enjoy. The Eyewitness series typically gives historical context for events, illustrates the importance of what happened, and looks ahead to see the impact on the future. This gives young readers a fuller understanding of an event (such as landing on the moon), putting history on a timeline that includes the present -- and the reader.
