Corduroy

While there's absolutely nothing objectionable or questionable about this story, it's too verbose to be great for a 2-year old, I think. I own this book and read it to my nearly-two year old, but I've shortened the story a bit (kind of summarizing the pictures), and adding sound effects (the lamp goes CRASH!) which keep him engaged in the story. I also think that some of the concepts are better for a slightly older preschooler as I don't think a 2-yr old will grasp that when the bear claims something (like saying that the e store is "a palace"), that he is mistaken. For a 4 year old, who is much more familiar with both stores and palaces (from Disney movies?), the humor is more readily apparent. Other than that, however, the book is sweet and cute and a nice prelude to the Toy Story ideas where toys have thoughts and feelings too.

A sweet story, but not really upbeat.

"Corduroy" is a book every family should have of their shelf. It's simple, positive, and loving -- everything you want in a picture book!

This book brings back so much memories when I was a toddler! It is too cute and adorable! Nothing inappropriate about it! This would be the best bedtime story to read to your kids! I love this book! I wish I still have it so that I could read it to my kids someday!

I grew up with this book I love sharing it with my son!

Corduroy is an excellent story. Probably one of the best children's books in general. Talks about the importance of home, friendship, and love. All the while providing an exciting story about a teddy bear looking for one small button in a giant department store. I would recommend this book to anyone with children.

I had this book as a child, and loved it. I was 7 in 1968 when it first came out and it meant a lot to me because it was the first book I owned that had a Black girl as the protagonist...someone who looked like me! As a mother, I purchased the book for my daughter who is now 26 and a mom herself. It's a good book for anyone regardless of age or race, very warmhearted and inspiring because we all at one point had a toy we fell in love with and loved despite it's alleged 'imperfections.'
