What's the Story?
In CAT ON THE RUN IN CUCUMBER MADNESS!, viral video sensation and international celebrity Princess Beautiful has disappeared after being accused of stealing nuclear codes. She wakes up in a strange place, tied to a chair, being told outlandish stories about innocence by a goat. She'd try to check on his theory, but this corner of the world has no internet—which also means no one recognizes her! Unsure what to do in this strange situation, Princess Beautiful takes matters into her own paws.
Is It Any Good?
With expressive, funny illustrations and background information, Princess Beautiful becomes a more well-rounded character, but the plot is a bit thin and slow. In Cat on the Run in Cucumber Madness!, there are some good, genuinely vulnerable opportunities to look at what really pushed Princess Beautiful to start her career on the internet. The rapid-fire dialog, jokes, wordplay, and the cats-are-scared-of-cucumbers gag that kids will know from the internet makes this fun to read, but it might be hard to follow for younger readers trying to pay attention to the lively illustrations, too. The cliffhanger ending will have fans eager for book three.
