What's the Story?
Kids from around the globe are shown savoring books with friends, family, and even animals in all sorts of settings -- from the library and the car to a submarine and an elephant. The text is presented in both English and Spanish. The end pages include suggestions for celebrating Children's Day/Book Day in April.
Is It Any Good?
Author Pat Mora, the founder of Children's Day/Book Day (or El Dia de los Ninos/El Dia de los Libros), shares a heartfelt tribute to the lifelong adventure of reading. The poetic nature and lack of plot might make some kids restless while listening. It's best explored by parents and children together as a springboard to talk about stories and imagination. It's a great selection for beginning a read-aloud session.
Rafael Lopez's magical artwork brings the book alive with lush colors, strong design, and diverse, charming kids. A family floating in a boat listens to the father read aloud, as the son imagines himself in a pirate adventure and the daughter, trailing a finger lazily in the water, imagines herself a mermaid. As darkness cloaks the earth, rooftops come unmoored from their homes and dreaming children float toward the moon, soaring with books in hand. Gorgeous, soaring full-page illustrations are the heart and soul of this book.
