What’s It About?
In TOCA TAILOR, kids can design outfits for different models, including animals. They first choose the shape, length, and style of clothes while they are on the model by tapping on them or moving a finger to shorten or lengthen them. Then the clothing moves to the sewing room, where kids can choose the fabric and add buttons, zippers, pockets, and more. Here, kids can bedazzle their hearts out. Finally, kids do a final fitting with their model and add accessories. Kids can save outfits and have a pretend runway show.
Is It Any Good?
What's nice about Toca Tailor in comparison with other fashion apps is that it feels more gender inclusive and appropriate for younger kids. The bright colors, patterns, and designs don't skew towards the stereotypical girl themes we often see in similar apps. In addition, the models kids dress include boys, girls, and animal characters.
There is one feature that might frustrate kids. When kids dress the models, the characters make facial expressions and sounds that aren't always pleasant -- sometimes the characters sound surprised or even disapproving. Some kids might be a little discouraged if it sounds like the characters don't like their outfits.
