What's It About?
Kids playing TOCA HAIR SALON 2 choose by tapping on one of six heads to style its hair. Then they move to a new page where the character sits down in the stylist's chair. Kids then swipe across the bottom of that page to choose a styling tool. As they style, the character will make sounds and facial expressions about the style. Choose a backdrop and take a picture of the head with the camera, and a photo will appear in your device's photo gallery.
Is It Any Good?
The kid-friendly user interface suitable for kids as young as 3 on Toca Hair Salon continues on Toca Hair Salon 2. Fans of the first app will likely love the new additions to characters, accessories, and tools. And the male characters and facial hair additions may attract some salon newcomers, too. It's also a nice touch that kids can choose the backdrop color for their characters' photos. The best part of Toca Hair Salon 2 is that the hair seems to move and look more realistic on this version, and the characters' faces make new facial expressions and sounds. One potential negative: Toca Hair Salon 2 characters are not as whimsical and are more predictable than those on the original app, which may not be seen as an improvement by many fans of the uber-creative characters on the first app. Still, all things considered and compared, this app is a cut above the first Toca Hair Salon version because of the all the new styling options.
