Positive messages abound in this story, which manages to be sweet without going over the top with saccharine. Strawberry Shortcake and her friends make the best of their situation, and each friend does what she wants to do with her day rather than giving up her ideas and dreams to go along with the crowd. Though the story doesn't show the work they do, it does mention that the girls worked hard to make their lake into the resort they wanted. The interactive features are delightful. Kids will get a kick out of scrolling through the girls' last vacation photos or changing the designs on the surfboards. The games, which are good enough to stand on their own in an app, are impressively addictive and will appeal to a broader range than only fans of the characters.
