Run Sackboy! Run!
Parent and Kid Reviews
What’s It About?
The knitted gingerbread-looking Sackboy is on the run from the Negativitron, a vacuum-cleaner monster. Using tapping gestures, kids help him outrun the monster, collect bubbles, and dodge obstacles. Kids can take him into three different worlds and can change his appearance using the bubbles earned. They also can use bubbles as power-ups and to buy things in the shop. "Save-me-Hearts" are available as in-app purchases to help keep the play going. When Sackboy hits an obstacle, gameplay ends and starts over unless the Save-me-Hearts are used.
Is It Any Good?
RUN SACKBOY! RUN! will be a fast hit with fans of LittleBigPlanet. Beyond exploring the three worlds, trying out costumes, and buying the stickers, the app probably won't engage players for endless hours. Still, the graphics are impressive, the controls well-designed, and the play challenging enough to give kids a enjoyable experience. Bonus: It's totally playable without in-app purchases (though it will take longer to explore the worlds and earn stickers).
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about their guidelines for in-app purchases. Are kids allowed to make them? If so, how do they pay for them?
Families can talk about creative video game art. What's different about Sackboy and his world than in other games? Would it be fun to think about designing a world like this?
