What's It About?
PEEP CIENCIAS: RAMPAS is a digital platform entirely in Spanish that provides parents with a guide on how to facilitate age-appropriate learning around ramps, or inclined planes, which are one of the six classical simple machines. The app includes videos of parents modeling how they use Peep Ciencias: Rampas to engage their kid in scientific exploration and discussion. Each of the eight sessions builds upon the previous session's learning and follows a similar structure, incorporating an animated video to introduce kids to new concepts, step-by-step ideas for kids and grown-ups to play and explore together, questions to launch conversation about concepts, and ideas to explore concepts further. Topics such as slopes and friction are presented in an age-appropriate way, emphasizing observation and description. While using the app, kids will practice scientific skills such as making observations, making comparisons, making predictions, testing their hypotheses, and verbally describing outcomes. The app guides grown-ups on how to support kids in the design and creation of their own ramps and encourages families to take the learning outdoors, where they will find different examples of ramps.
Is It Any Good?
Learn about ramps and age-appropriate science skills through fun, quirky video clips and clear step-by-step directions, question prompts, and activity ideas that help grown-ups promote offscreen learning, real-world connections, and critical thinking. The app is designed to guide grown-ups in facilitating a learning experience for their kids in an exciting and engaging way. The focus is on the family interactions that promote learning and enthusiasm around science. It also emphasizes the idea of giving kids ownership over developing their own ideas and testing them, which will translate into any other personal or academic endeavor. Families that want to add pizazz to traditional homework assignments or want to take a more active role in helping their kids make connections outside of school, will love this app. Ever struggle to explain a complex idea in a kid-friendly way? This app makes it easy. Peep Ciencias: Rampas is extremely easy to follow, since the app spells out everything from materials needed to what to say and when. It also provides explicit extension ideas. The parent videos clearly illustrate an example of what the sessions look like and sound like. It even shows parents the age-appropriate science vocabulary and skills that are addressed in each session. Families may be left wanting more content after finishing the eighth session, but the suggested activities can be used to engage kids over and over again. The general format of exploration can also be applied to other concepts. Overall, Peep Ciencias: Rampas is an awesome tool that will help families explore scientific concepts in Spanish. Best of all, it encourages families to spend quality time together and bond over learning.
