What’s It About?
NICK JR. BOOKS – READ INTERACTIVE EBOOKS FOR KIDS presents popular Nick Jr. characters and episodes in a digital book format. Choose a story to read from Paw Patrol, Bubble Guppies, Blue's Clues, and others. Then decide to read on your own or listen to a narrator. In the narration mode, words are highlighted so kids can follow along. On most screens, kids can tap characters or props for extra sound effects. Create a separate account for each kid to build a personal library and collect stars for each book read. Parent tips help parents ask their kids questions about what they're reading.
Is It Any Good?
Hugely popular characters and TV series' plots are well represented in simple, easy-to-access digital stories. Nick Jr. Books – Read Interactive eBooks for Kids has all the right pieces for making digital book reading fun and smooth for young kids. Kids can read alone or with narration, and the narration option highlights the text on the screen so kids can follow along. Graphics are high quality and pleasing. There are some interactive features, but they aren't so complex as to distract from the story. And the tips help parents and kids talk about the storyline and story themes, which enhances kids' experiences with reading. Unless kids are already fans of a particular series or character, the stories themselves are nothing special -- especially because, at $2.99 a pop, building a library can quickly become a drain on your wallet, and the stories are not of such high quality to make them worth introducing to kids who don't know the characters. However, for kids who love the shows, this app is a great bridge from TV to book.

Ask kids how it's different interacting with their favorite characters in a digital book vs. seeing them on the TV screen. Is one activity more fun than the other? Why, or why not?
Talk to your kids about branding. What makes these books particularly appealing? Is it more fun to read books about favorite characters and familiar settings than to choose a book about something entirely new? Why, or why not?
