What’s It About?
MUNDO LANUGO - JUEGA Y APRENDE includes 11 learning sections that include games, music, and videos. In one section kids drag and drop the main characters onto a stage to hear them play popular Latin American instruments to the beat of "La Cucaracha," a well-known Latin American song. In another section kids play a game where they drag and drop the matching shapes of popular art pieces and sculptures from Latin American culture. A cooking section even has kids dragging and dropping ingredients to complete popular Latin American recipes.
Is It Any Good?
Preschoolers will find it fun to interact with lovable animal characters as they practice Spanish and are immersed in Latin American culture, but it may have a short shelf life. For the most part, the intuitive design and simple controls make it easy for little ones to use. Kids may initially need a bit of guidance scrolling through to navigate the home screen, clicking on icons and arrows to find their way to a section and then back to the home screen. Kids get minimal support as they play, so when playing a game they'll have to keep trying if they don't initially get it right. However, the nonverbal cues, such as the characters' reaction to incorrect choices in some of games, will quickly break through the language barrier to help kids understand what they need to do to move on and master the game. While the 11 sections are fun, they're also pretty simple, so their appeal may be short-lived once kids have mastered them. Having even more nonverbal cues, praise for correct answers, and simpler ways to navigate between activities would enhance the experience.
