What's It About?
With MOTHER GOOSE CLUB RHYMES, kids watch videos on a wide variety of early learning topics, listen to stories, and play simple games. Hundreds of videos cover classic nursery rhymes and songs as well as original music, ideas for offscreen activities, and general topics of interest for preschoolers. Tap a video or story to download to your device and access it at any time. Browse content by type and save favorites for easy access. When kids play in travel mode, they can only see content that's already been downloaded.
Is It Any Good?
Super-smiley characters in super-cutesy costumes make songs, rhymes, and other standard preschool fare fun and highly accessible for the little ones. The Mother Goose Club Rhymes app is an easy way for young kids to access the vast library of relatively high-quality video clips. They go through all the classics in the world of preschool songs and rhymes -- though they're often not presented in the traditional way. In many songs, the lyrics and/or melody aren't what we're used to, which some parents will welcome while others may not. And though grown-ups may get tired of the videos' saccharine-sweet style, kids will likely drink it up. Most if not all of these videos are available for free on the Mother Goose Club YouTube website and YouTube channel, but the app lets kids explore safely on their own, with the option of accessing the material offline as well. And there's some content that's exclusive to the app, like some storybooks and simple games. Both categories offer decent, age-appropriate content, even if the games aren't particularly creative or inspired. Given the relatively high price for subscribing, take some time to watch videos on the website and take advantage of the app's free trial before deciding if it's worth it.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the songs and rhymes in Mother Goose Club Rhymes. Sing together, recite the rhymes, and watch the videos throughout the day. Songs, rhymes, and repetition help kids with language development and are important components of early literacy.
Use the offscreen suggestions. Watch the activity videos together for some great ideas for offscreen learning and fun.
Watching videos may be fun, but it's easy to lose track of time. Talk to your kids about your family's rules around screen time. Work together to establish screen time limits and encourage lots of offscreen fun too.
