I purchased this app based on commonsensemedia's review and was very disappointed. Either the reviewer is not from the US or he did not thoroughly examine the app. Under the "Letter Sounds" section, some of the vowel sounds are incorrect and, therefore, that section is unusable. The other main section is the "I Spy" section. The child is to choose from an assortment of images to find one that starts with different letters. The image for N is a narwhal (I had no idea what it was - it kind of looks like a swordfish). The image for the letter O is an okapi. There are multiple other examples of image/letter combinations that are extremely confusing. The app was clearly not created by someone fluent in American English.

Parents and kids who already know and like the Montessori way of teaching -- simple, quiet, and self-directed -- will love Montessori Letter Sounds. Those who are expecting more action, noise, and sparkly graphics may not find these games as impressive. That said, there's no question that the games are age-appropriate, exceptionally well-crafted, and progressively challenging. Also, the supplemental activities that are offered are fun and can be played at any level.
