Flip Flap Dogs
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's It About?
To begin FLIP FLAP DOGS, tap Read and Play or Read By Myself. A narrator speaks the highlighted words (which parents can disable) on the screen on the Read and Play option while kids can swipe left or right on the two halves of each dog to make different dog combinations. The Read By Myself option works in the same way but without a narrator.
Is It Any Good?
This beautifully illustrated flip-the-flap book of dog poetry will likely be a favorite of any dog-loving preschooler. Flip Flap Dogs engages kids immediately as they swipe through the dog breed choices to create their own surprise combo dog. With 121 possible combinations, kids will listen more than once to the various poems on this app as they reappear in different dog combinations. While the app is geared toward preschoolers, the reading level of the poems is quite high, so the Read By Myself option may not be the appropriate choice for many kids in the target age range. The Read and Play option includes a friendly, upbeat narrator's voice reading each poem. Overall, this simple, fun app can also help prereaders dip their toes into early reading, especially once they've heard the poems a few times.
