What’s It About?
FIETE – A DAY ON THE FARM begins with a scene of a boat on the water at dawn. Kids tap on a clock and are taken to a bedroom where three farmers are sleeping. Once kids wake the farmers by tapping, they can continue with the tasks of the day: gathering eggs, milking cows, sawing wood, feeding pigs, shearing sheep, collecting hay, and so on. As kids swipe the screen, time passes. There are interactive elements for each part of the day -- morning, noon, and evening -- and kids tap on an element to complete the task. For example, when kids tap on the tractor, they're taken to a screen in which they have to drive the tractor around the farm. The open-play platform allows kids to freely explore and return to any task they wish, though check marks indicate which chores they've already completed.
Is It Any Good?
Walking through the farmers' day is a fun way for kids to explore farm life and gain an understanding of the passage of time. It also teaches them that tasks are important but that they also can be fun. The art is simple and charming, and the number of activities is limited but expansive enough to keep kids engaged. Its cohesion also is a bonus, as the interactive elements aren't disjointed and form a full day. Because there's no guidance, some kids might have to poke around a bit before figuring out some of the tasks. One more level of interactivity for each task would be great; for example, after kids saw the wood, they could stack it. Also, more emphasis on time, such as presenting kids with a clock that tells time, could give the learning experience a bit of a boost. Overall, though, this is a sweet introduction to farm life for little ones.

Families can talk about tasks or chores and why they're important and what tasks we do at certain times of the day.
Talk about the importance of farming and how it provides people with important resources such as fruits, vegetables, milk, and wool.
Encourage your kid to create a story about the day on the farm and the chores the characters complete.
