What's It About?

In DUEL 1ST, 2ND, 3RD, 4TH GRADE MATH GAMES FOR KIDS, start by adding a name and choosing a grade level. Within a grade level, kids can toggle to play all skills, or they can manually select the skills they want to practice. For all skills, kids can choose one or all of the following: Equal To, Not Equal To, or Comparison. This determines the type of challenge in the game. For example, if kids choose the skill "Subtract Within 10" and then choose "Equal To," the game will start with something like "Equal to 8," and kids have to choose all the subtraction problems (within 10) displayed on the screen that are equal to 8. To start playing the game, kids choose from three play options. The Nearby option allows parents to add up to seven players via Wi-Fi on other devices, the Split Screen option allows kids to play an opponent at any grade level on a single device, and the VS Computer option allows kids to play against the computer. All games are timed, and whomever has the most points wins the round. Parents can view a simple progress report to find out which skills kids have practiced and how well they did.

It can be a challenge to make drill-style games fun for kids, but this app does a nice job of engaging and challenging kids to build fluency in important math skills. The face past and competitive nature of Duel 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Grade Math Games for Kids will keeps kids wanting more. At this price, however, it would be great to have more learning options. For example, turning off the timer and allowing kids to practice independently could help them prepare for the duels. And brief lessons to build comprehension would make it a more well-rounded resource.

  • Families can talk about the skills kids practice in Duel 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Grade Math Games for Kids and which were the most challenging. Encourage kids to spend more time on the skills they struggle with the most.
