If you ignore the paranoid parents, you can see that Discord is really good. For example, discord tag protects you from being contacted by random people. Them, your profile displays pretty much no info about you. And its just generally very fun to use it.

You would have to legitimately try to get into an unsafe scenario on discord. You can turn off all messages from people who aren't friended for example. Also it is your choice what servers you join. Discord nitro costs $10 per month and is not necessary to use discord at all but it is still pushed on you while you are using the app. I think the bottom line is that discord is just the same as any other social app like messages and skype but it has an amazing ui.

trigger warning for: sexual assault, gore please please please do not let your kid get discord. The amount of sexual assault, grooming and awful pictures/ videos of dead and dismembered body parts is disturbing. Im saying this for children under the age of 13. If your child is 13, having a conversation about boundaries and limits would benefit from that behavior. Dont get me wrong, discord is a good place to chat and have fun on, but please be careful when it comes to strangers. This is coming from at 13 yr old that has had to experience that so i know what im talking about when i say be careful.

This is a good app if your kid is mature and won't add random people and give out info. This app can get really dangerous and bad for your kid if you let them do what ever they want on it, there is a lot of servers that have bad stuff, and also if you just give out info to randoms it can be dangerous. Also If you let your kid have this app you should monitor them. Also this app can be addicting because of servers that you want to keep chatting in or looking at memes like for example a meme server, also if you constantly text and check it, it can be addicting.

Many adults think Discord is an unsafe app because of predators and whatever. Yes, there are predators out there, but to get into an unsafe scenario on this app is hard. There are so many helpful privacy settings that can keep you safe. If you want to ensure that you are safe, do not join any servers. Only add your real life friends. You can also disable friend requests so that way nobody has the ability to add you. If not, Discord offers a setting where it will scan messages from people to see if they are safe before you personally receive them. As a child, I will likely be looked past, but I've been using this app for like 3 years now and have encountered like 1 weird person who I immediately blocked and the situation was fine after that.

so i'll be honest , as a person that is under 15, i'll give my honest review on how my experience on using discord for less then a year was like. its time consuming, exhausting and gets draining after a bit, you have your fun for a bit and then just spend all day in your room doing nothing, that is unless you're able to balance your in real life and online life, which was something i failed to for around a month or two, before i later ended what was left of my online life (pheww) dont let your kids get it, i mean i get it, it's your choice and it just depends on how they use the app in general, but it's not really worth it and if you do let them, give them a few months on the app and they'll get bored. BUT, depending on what side of discord you're on, they'll be bound to run into pedos, racists and genuinely people that aren't at their best, resulting in manipulation, guilt tripping, grooming and more. Discord has it's pros and cons, they unfortunately dont do well with stopping grooming, making weird messages from predators a common thing, unless you have your DMs set to certain people. I did, nonetheless, meet some sweet people during my few months there and i am greatful for that experience, but i have no doubt that i will never be coming back to the appi have seen these play out during my short online life, luckily im not a victim to these but have met many people that are. i was luckily able to deal with this, but some kids (sounds weird saying that since im a kid myself), might not be able to tell the signs. so please, if you do let your kid get the app, check on their messages, if they do use it to make friends online. There is no problem in making online friends, but just let them know that most online friendships dont last forever, making sure they dont get upset if they lose contact or the friendship fizzles out. I did have an okay experience on the app and thankfully used it for under a year, but i know many who have unfortunately accessed the worst side of discord. Please know that kids can be influenced easily, depending on the material they view and there are people that may manipulate your kids into feeling a certain way or believing a certain thing, so be aware of the dangers of the app itself, for any parent or kid thats reading this, i wish u the most amazing day n if you do use discord, a good experience 3 this is my honest review and why i do believe discord is more suitable for a mature audience !!

My brother got discord months ago, and ever since then, he's been swearing and saying sexy stuff to his friends whenever i hear him. He tells me to shut the f up, and more bad words. I don't really recommend Discord.

This is pretty much just a chatting app. Here is kind of a summary if you don’t know too much about it. Discord is a chatting app for computer, IOS and android. It is pretty much a buffed up apple messenger. You can use a lot of “cool” features like custom emojis, stickers, voice call, etc. However it isn't only for your friends. You can join different servers, and im assuming your kid will want to join their favorite online creator if they have a server. It is pretty much a giant group chat, where fans can chat, post memes, and stuff like that. Even though it is advertised for gaming, a majority of it isnt gaming. I would say 50/50 gaming and other. Usually memes or funny videos. But, as you would expect from an app with teens chatting, people do curse. But, if you join big creators servers, most times you cant curse or you will get banned. So bad words is probably the worst. Also v dont seem to be checked, but i havnt seen anything too bad. Nothing worse than some bad words. I would say anyone 11+ can handle this, but use common sense and dont talk to random strangers.

its good app if you worry about the freinf request and predattor then dont talk to them and dont accept freind requests from people u dont know it not dat hard and grooming only starts when u get sxal and stuff it not hard
