Concerned about preserving your mother’s china set?  Interested in exploring your family history?  Come to a fun and interactive event where you can learn how to take care of your family treasures.  Bring an item you want to preserve–a wedding gown or your grandparent’s family album– and a team of local museum professionals will give you tips on how to clean, store, and conserve these heirlooms.  

Speakers include:

• Raka Nandi,  Registrar & Collections Manager at the National Civil Rights Museum
• Jewell Roesler, Textile Conservator at the Pink Palace Museum
• Tammy Braithwaite, Registrar at the Pink Palace
• Kim Bearden, Executive Director at Elmwood Cemetery

We will also discuss how to get started researching your genealogy and resources available in the city to begin the process.  Tips on preserving paper, ceramics, furniture, photos,  VHS tapes and objects made of different materials. Join us and celebrate your personal history!
