Cats Protection’s Rugby Branch is appealing for donations to help it care for cats and kittens in need.

The charity’s volunteers carry out vital cat welfare work in the Rugby area, including rescuing, caring for and rehoming cats and kittens - including 11-week-old Ophelia.

Branch Co-ordinator Anne Barnard said: “Ophelia is an absolutely gorgeous kitten but she’s unfortunately been diagnosed with distichiasis, a condition where the eyelashes grow on the wrong part of the eyelid, causing painful irritation on the surface of the eye.

“Ophelia is receiving veterinary treatment and has to have eye drops every day.

“When she’s four months old vets will know if the condition has corrected itself or whether she’ll need surgery.”

The branch is run by a small group of volunteers. Cats and kittens are cared for by volunteer fosterers in purpose-built pens in their garden or in a spare room.

Anne said: “We have had so many poor mums and their kittens needing our help recently, all in need of love and care. Many of the mums aren’t much more than kittens themselves.

“If you can spare just a couple of pounds, or whatever you can, to help with their vet fees, food, litter, bedding and toys to make their stay with us that bit more comfortable, we – and the cats and kittens – would be so grateful.”

If you’d like to help Cats Protection’s Rugby branch, you can donate to its JustGiving appeal at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kittensrugby

The branch is also looking for more volunteers, including:

  • Fosterers who can look after cats and kittens in their home or in a pen in their garden
  • A social media fan to publicise the branch’s work
  • Lost and found’ volunteers to help reunite lost cats with their owners
  • A DIY expert to help with general maintenance and repairs to cat pens
  • An imaginative fundraising events organiser to raise money to help fund the branch’s vital cat welfare work.

If you’re interested in any of these volunteer roles and would like know more, you can email enquiries@rugby.cats.org.uk or call 01788 570010.
