Kittens are clearly adorable but they can require extra commitment from their owners, especially in the first few months. It's also important to ensure that wherever you're adopting your kitten from is a responsible seller, breeder or rescue shelter. Kittens should be at least 8 weeks old before they are separated from their mothers and rehomed. At Cats Protection we'd recommend most cats have access to the outside world to help them exhibit natural behaviours. However there are certain cats who might benefit from an indoor-only home, for example some deaf cats, those with a weaker immune system or some elderly cats. Occasionally cats come into our care who find it stressful to be around people and so need a home where they can have more space than a ’normal‘ home might offer.
