Whether you prefer something fruity, bitter or all-out exotic, the feeling you get when you take that first sip of your cocktail just can’t be beaten. Aside from the taste (obvs), one of our fave things about cocktails is how good they look on our Insta feed. 

Whether you’re posing with a Strawberry Cosmo or posting your Bloody Mary on your story at bottomless brunch with the girls, Insta is filled with some beaut cocktail pics. We’ve been doing some digging and found the most hashtagged cocktails on Insta and some of them might surprise you.

THE MOST HASHTAGGED COCKTAILS ON INSTA

1. MARGARITA (# TOTAL: 10 MILLION)

Is it a protein shaker we hear, or is it a Margarita? We know which we’d prefer. 

It came as no surprise that the classic Margarita came in as the most popular cocktail on Insta. Zesty and sweet, a Margarita is a sure-fire way to get any party started, so pass us the Tequila, salt and lime, because this cocktail was made for Insta. 

Margarita Ingredients 

•    Ice
•    50ml tequila 
•    25ml lime juice (or lemon, if you prefer)
•    20ml triple sec 
•    Salt (obvs)
•    A wedge of lime

To make this classic cocktail, you’ll need to start by sprinkling some salt on a plate. Rub your lime wedge along the rim of your chosen cocktail glass before running the rim along your plate of salt, covering the entire circumference of your glass. 

Next, grab your cocktail shaker and fill it with ice, tequila, lime juice and triple sec and shake it up. Once you’re done shaking things up, strain your cocktail into your glass and garnish with a wedge of lime.

2. MOJITO (# TOTAL: 4.93 MILLION)

Sweet and citrussy, the Mojito comes in as the second most hashtagged cocktail on Insta with 4.93 million hashtags.  

Mojito Ingredients

•    Juice of 1 lime 
•    1 tsp white sugar
•    Handful of mint leaves 
•    60ml white rum 
•    Soda water 

The Mojito is super-simple to make. Just place your lime juice, mint and sugar into a glass and mash together (the end of a rolling pin works well for this!). Add the all-important rum, give it a stir and pour into a highball glass over ice. Top up with soda water and add a few sprigs of mint to help you get the perf Insta pic. 

Best enjoyed: Mojitos make the ideal summer drink, so get sippin’ at the first sight of sun this season.

Made with Champagne and orange juice, this fancy cocktail could almost be considered one of your five a day.

Mimosa Ingredients 

•    75ml orange juice
•    50ml Champagne 
•    1 raspberry (to make it Insta-worthy)

The perf lazy-girl cocktail, simply pour your orange juice into a Champagne flute, top with those all-important bubbles and place your raspberry on the rim for good measure. Et voilà – you’ve got yourself a delicious Mimosa.

Classic Cosmopolitan Ingredients 

•    45ml lemon vodka 
•    15ml triple sec 
•    30ml cranberry juice 
•    10ml lime juice 
•    Ice 

Add all of your ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake like your life depends on it. Strain into a boujee cocktail glass and get sippin’.

5. BLOODY MARY (# TOTAL: 1.83 MILLION)

Love it or hate it, the Bloody Mary has been hashtagged on Insta over 1.83 million times. Often used as a hangover cure, the Bloody Mary is the perf morning beverage – it’s practically a smoothie, right?

Bloody Mary Ingredients

•    50ml vodka 
•    Juice of ½ lemon 
•    200ml tomato juice
•    3 dashes Worcestershire sauce 
•    1 dash Tabasco sauce (or more if you want to get spicy!)
•    Pinch of salt and pepper
•    A couple of ice cubes 

Add the ice to a highball glass and pour in your vodka. Next, add your lemon juice, both sauces and the all-important tomato juice (gotta get that Vitamin C) and stir. Add a sprinkling of salt and pepper and enjoy!
