From the President's Desk
Dear Colleagues,
I hope this note finds you well. This is the first in a series of semiregular communications I’ll be writing intended to update you on our Society’s initiatives and growth.
As some of you are already aware, BMES is going through a period of transition. The foundational component of this transition is the hire of John Falcioni as our new Executive Director/CEO. I wrote about his hire a few weeks ago.
The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and I are excited by John’s ideas and strategies for long-term growth, revenue diversification, and program development. All of it is aimed at renewing our commitment to providing value to members – academics, students, industry members, government employees and consultants, and clinicians – and to grow the organization so it’s in an even better position to fulfill our mission and vision. The initiatives are exciting, and you’ll be hearing more from me and John in the weeks to come.
I’m also excited about our upcoming Annual Meeting in Seattle, October 11 -14. This event has traditionally been the place where our profession convenes. This year is no different! Kelly Stevens, Brendan Harley, and Stacey Finley, the program chairs, have been working hard to develop an exceptional mix of scientific programs, events and networking opportunities, including stimulating special sessions and workshops. The event will culminate with a reception on Friday the 13th of October where we’re planning something new and special.
Although it’s still a bit early to provide a preview of what’s on tap for the Annual Meeting, one thing is for sure: You’ll get to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. I encourage you to take advantage of the early bird rates and register now.
Finally, I want to let you know that this week, the Executive Committee approved the slate of candidates proposed by this year’s Nominations Committee. When elections open next month, you’ll have the opportunity to vote for a slate of candidates volunteer for the positions of President-Elect, Treasurer, and four seats on the Board of Directors (three academic and one industry). All active non-student members are eligible to vote. Please go to your profile on BMES.org and check to make sure that your membership is active. If it has elapsed, please renew now so that you can vote (and access all your member benefits – plus the new ones that we’ll be announcing soon).
BMES leadership plays an important role in helping to shape the Society of today and tomorrow. I encourage you to make your voice heard and to vote.
Enjoy the summer!
Cynthia A. Reinhart-King
