Consultation

Consultation: Clean water measures

Work is continuing on implementing parliamentary initiative 19.475 on reducing the risk of using pesticides. The consultation procedure ended on 18 August 2021; the responses will now be evaluated and the project concluded. The Federal Council is expected to announce its decision in the second quarter of 2022.

The partially revised enforcement aid on environmental protection in agriculture will set out the current provisions on emissions-reducing land application methods with effect from 1 January 2022.

Food systems

Discussion about food systems

The UN Food Systems Summit is to be held in September 2021. In preparation for this summit, which forms part of the Decade of Action to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Switzerland has conducted a virtual dialogue as a contribution to developing paths towards sustainable food systems by 2030 .

New brochure on farm animal genetic resources in Swiss agriculture

This brochure provides information on agriculture in Switzerland, an overview of animal husbandry and a description of the 38 different Swiss breeds. It provides interested parties with detailed information on Switzerland’s many unique breeds.

The Federal Office for Agriculture is committed to ensuring sustainable agricultural production in order to contribute to food security in Switzerland. In doing so, we take into account the various interests, develop the legal basis for a progressive and effective agricultural policy and implement this policy efficiently.

The general conditions created by the federal government must allow the agricultural and food industry to enjoy market success. Innovation, efficiency, sustainability and diversity are key to this. It is equally important to use natural resources sparingly and to reduce the ecological footprint.

A multifunctional agricultural and food industry is important. We are acting now for the future.
