About Honda CB300R

Last Updated 8 Days back

Honda India has voluntarily recalled its 300-350cc bikes, including CB300F, CB300R, CB350, H’ness CB350 and CB350RS, over two mechanical issues.

The Honda CB300R is inspired by its elder sibling, the Honda CB1000R. The bike has neo-retro styling paired with a modern liquid-cooled engine. The Honda CB300R is a 300cc streetfighter that's known to be one of the lightest in its class.

Honda CB300R Price

The new Honda CB300R comes in a single variant priced at Rs 2,40,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is exclusively available at Honda BigWing dealerships across India. Buyers can choose their Honda CB300R from two available colour options: Pearl Spartan Red and Matte Massive Grey.

Honda CB300R Features

The Honda CB300R has a fully digital instrument panel that displays all important information, such as the odometer, gear position indicator, speedometer, and time, mileage indicator, and fuel level readout. Additionally, the bike also includes a hazard light switch, an all-LED lighting, and an emergency stop signal that switches on the hazard lights if the brakes are applied suddenly. There's no smartphone connectivity, even as an option, which is disappointing for a bike in this segment.

Honda CB300R Engine

The Honda CB300R is powered by a 286cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that generates 31.1PS @9000 rpm and 27.5Nm @7500 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a assist-and-slipper clutch, ensuring light lever action while preventing the rear wheel from locking up during aggressive engine braking.

Honda CB300R Suspension and Brakes

The Honda CB300R features a diamond-type frame with an upside-down (USD) fork at the front and a 7-step adjustable monoshock in the rear. The CB300R's braking system includes a 296mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc. The Honda CB300R has tubeless radial tyres - 110-section at the front and 150-section in the rear, both with 17-inch alloy wheels. It also has dual-channel ABS to improve braking efficiency on slippery surfaces.

The seat height stands at 801mm. The Honda CB300R has a ground clearance of 157mm, and the kerb weight is about 146kg, which is impressively light. That said, the fuel tank capacity is pretty small at just 9.7 litres.

Honda CB300R Rivals

The prime competitors of the Honda CB300R are the TVS Apache RTR 310 and the BMW G 310 R. Other more powerful options include KTM Duke 390, Bajaj Dominar 400, Triumph Speed 400 or slightly less expensive models like the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and the Yezdi Roadster.

CB300R Expert Review

BikeDekho Experts
Despite offering decent performance and sporty riding dynamics, the Honda CB300R needs a big refresh very soon. The styling feels quite old now and the features list is incomparable to its rivals. The Triumph Speed 400, for example, offers a bigger engine with a far better features list for the same price tag.

Overview

The Honda CB300R is the Japanese manufacturer’s 300cc neo-retro roadster offering in India and has been around for some time now. But how does it fare against its rivals currently, now that the 300-400cc segment has become highly competitive?

Honda CB300R Expert Review 7

Design

The Honda CB300R gets Honda’s Neo Sports Cafe-inspired design and it looks like a scaled-down CB1000R, which makes it quite pleasing to look at. The combination of the sculpted tank, flat seat and the round headlight with LED lighting grabs attention . The large exhaust and LED turn indicators adds to the appeal. The overall build quality of the bike is quite good except for the rear-view mirrors which look pretty ordinary.

Honda CB300R Expert Review 6

Engine, Mileage & Performance

The 286cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor is quite torquey and has a linear power delivery. It has great bottom-end grunt and you can easily move at speeds of 50kmph in third gear in the city. The neo-retro roadster has great low to mid-range performance and on the highway, you can comfortably cruise at 100-120kmph at 6,000rpm in sixth gear. And the motor is quite frugal as well as the BS4 model delivered mileage figures of 39.8kmpl during our road tests.

Honda CB300R Expert Review 5

Handling & Ride Quality

The Honda CB300R gets impressive sporty riding dynamics. It feels quite sharp while tackling corners and the sharp rake, short trail and short wheelbase contributes towards that. The tyres offer good grip as well. The compact dynamics and the short turning radius also makes it effortless to manoeuvre in the city. The performance of the brakes could have been better. Although the progression is good, the initial bite is not that confidence inspiring.

Honda CB300R Expert Review 4

Comfort

The suspension setup of the CB300R is on the firmer side but that doesn’t come in the way of a comfortable ride quality. The inverted fork and the monoshock do a good job of absorbing bumps and potholes. And the riding position adds to the comfortable riding experience.

The 800mm seat height along with the compact dimensions make the bike quite accessible and even shorter riders can comfortably put both their feet on the ground. The seat has a flat profile and the cushioning is quite comfortable as well. The handlebar is flat and wide but you won’t need to stretch your arms a lot to reach it. The slightly rear-set footpegs result in a sporty yet still upright riding posture, which in turn leads to a comfortable riding experience during those long hours on the saddle.

Honda CB300R Expert Review 3

Features

The Honda CB300R gets a pretty basic list of features consisting of an LCD instrument console that gives out speedometer, odometer, gear position indicator, tachometer and other regular readouts. It also gets all-LED lighting too. Other than that, though, there’s nothing much to talk about. The lack of Bluetooth connectivity is a big miss. Its rivals offer a far better package of modern features.

Honda CB300R Expert Review 2

Should you buy

The Honda CB300R offers decent performance with linear power delivery, good handling dynamics and a comfortable ride. But the overall design and the mechanics are in urgent need of a refresh as the same bike has been around for a long time now and its features list is something that’s easily found in a 150cc bike these days. And for a Rs 2,40,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) price tag, the Triumph Speed 400 offers a bigger engine and much better features.
