Junior Make-up Assistant (EastEnders)

A Make-up Junior at EastEnders works at the heart of the hair and make-up team. This 6 month opportunity gives the successful candidate the opportunity to learn and work alongside experienced industry professionals designing make-up looks for some of British Dramas most iconic and loved characters.

Casualty Directors' Scheme 2024

The Casualty Directors’ Scheme 2024 is designed to give eight directors the opportunity to attend two paid bootcamp weekends at the show’s home in Roath Lock, Cardiff. 

Trainee Researcher (EastEnders)

The Trainee Researcher is an exciting year-long placement which sees the successful candidate given the opportunity to work alongside the Script and Story Researchers who provide support to the editorial and writing team, to identify and carry out research activities on any subject matter through the story and script process. 

Trainee Script Editor (EastEnders)

The Trainee Script Editor is an exciting year-long placement which sees the successful candidate given the opportunity to spend an initial six months working alongside the script team, before spending three months in the story office. After experiencing both worlds of script and story, the final three months of the year-long placement will be spent in either team, chosen by you. 

River City Academy 

Launched in August 2023, the River City Academy will upskill and train over 50 people across the award-winning production. This initiative is being brought to life in partnership with Screen Scotland. Applications for the January cohort is now closed. Click here to read more

 

Alumni successes

 

Elizabeth Kwenortey

Elizabeth joined the EastEnders script team as the first Trainee Script Editor in January 2021. During her time, she script edited eight episodes. Elizabeth went on to join Kudos and served as script editor for the eighth series of ITV detective drama, Grantchester as well as script consulting for a project with RSA Films. Following the completion of Grantchester’s eighth series, she moved on to script edit Steven Knight’s SAS: Rogue Heroes. She continues to support various writers and new projects in development.

“My time on EastEnders was the best opportunity in my career. It thrust me into a world that I honestly never believed I would’ve been able to access and I am eternally grateful for my time there. It changed the trajectory of what I thought I could do, and I know it has also done the same for others.”

Roisín Mullins

Roisín joined EastEnders as Trainee Script Editor in July 2021. During her traineeship, she script edited one episode of the show and soon found a passion for writing in the EastEnders Story Department where she has storylined iconic episodes such as ‘Farewell Dot’. Before joining EastEnders, Roisín worked as Coordinator for Film Hub North, where she tracked audience data and administered funding grants. She also worked for the Aesthetica Short Film festival as a festival assistant.

“This traineeship has been a transformative experience that has altered the professional path I was on and led me to a sustainable career within the TV industry.”

Saffron King

Saffron joined EastEnders as Trainee Script Editor in January 2022. She went on to edit one episode of the show, before spending six months in the story team. She then joined the team at Coronation Street as Assistant Script Editor.

“This traineeship has changed my life and I am so grateful for this opportunity. I would recommend anyone who wants to be a Script Editor and who doesn’t have the experience to definitely consider going onto this traineeship at Eastenders, you learn so much.”

Tia Daby 

Tia joined BBC Studios as Trainee Researcher at EastEnders in November 2022. She is now part of the EastEnders team as a Story & Script Researcher. Prior to joining the BBC, Tia worked for NBCUniversal’s scripted development team. She has an ever-zealous passion in helping to craft new, untold and refreshing stories that reflect our cosmopolitan world.

“The trainee scheme allowed me to essentially step straight into the world of scripted research with the amazing support of the EastEnders team.”

Alex Soremi

Alex joined BBC Studios as Trainee Script Editor at EastEnders in 2022 where she script edited one episode. Since leaving, she went on to script edit on the Channel 5 series The Hunted, before returning to BBC Studios as Assistant Script Editor on Series 3 and 4 of Phoenix Rise. Alex went on to work as Junior Producer as Nomad Productions in the UAE, producing documentaries and short films for their international clients.

“Working at EastEnders has been a unique experience where I’ve had to hit the ground running. It’s been a really rewarding experience!”

Chantelle Ampomah

Chantelle joined EastEnders as Trainee Script Editor in January 2023. During her time with the soap, she edited one episode before spending six months in the show’s story office. While looking for her next role, she is spending time on her writing and directing projects. 

“If you had told me I would be pitching an EastEnders storyline at story conference in a room full of experienced writers and producers, I would have never imagined it to be true… And yet, that’s exactly what I was able to achieve.”

Maisie Adair

Maisie joined EastEnders as Trainee Researcher in February 2024 and within eight months was promoted to Researcher on the show. On joining the initiative, she said: 

“As a longstanding fan of EastEnders I feel so lucky to be working on a show beloved by millions of people.”

Daniel Sierwald 

Dan joined EastEnders as Trainee Script Editor in February 2024 and learning all-things script and story.  

“I’ve dreamed of a career in storytelling all my life, and I’m so grateful to EastEnders for the opportunity to learn and collaborate with such lovely and talented people. I’ve already had my eyes opened to so much and I’m really excited about what my future in the Square holds.”

Leah Brown

Leah studied filmmaking at Kingston University, where she first developed her interest in scripts and story development. Previously Leah worked as a script reader for the northern branch of Sister Pictures and as an executive assistant for a documentary film company. Leah is now looking forward to taking the next steps in her career at the BBC.

"Working on Casualty has been a dream of mine for so long so I am beyond excited about this incredible opportunity and being chosen as their editorial trainee.  Casualty is one of the best shows on the BBC, with its exceptional writing and incredibly talented actors. I am eager to dive in and contribute all I can to the script and story teams. This is a fantastic step forward in my career, and I am so grateful for the chance to learn and grow in such an amazing environment!"
