The Environment AgencyFlood warning
Areas affected: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice
ACTIVE
Started at: 14:06 GMT on Fri 31 January
Flooding is expected - immediate action required
Heavy rain has fallen over the past few days which is causing the river levels to rise on the River Nene. During periods of high tide the River Nene will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding of the North Bank Road, between Peterborough and Rings End. Whilst this Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. We are closely monitoring the situation and this message will be updated by 17:00 on 01/02/2025, or before, if the situation changes.

Flood alert
Areas affected: The tidal Rivers Bure, Ant and Thurne
ACTIVE
Started at: 08:55 GMT on Fri 31 January
Flooding is possible - be prepared
This message has been issued because some minor flooding to riverside roads and footpaths is likely from today, Friday 31st January, and for at least the next 24hrs. This is due to a natural tide locking effect, and tidal water moving up the rivers from Great Yarmouth which is restricting the normal drainage of the Broads river system out to sea at low tide. We expect to see high water levels around Potter Heigham, Wroxham boat yards and Ferry Road in Horning. We are not currently expecting the situation to escalate, or to issue any further warning messages at this time. Take care on waterside roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are closely monitoring the situation. We will update this message tomorrow morning, Saturday 1st February, or as the situation changes.

Started at: 08:54 GMT on Fri 31 January
Flooding is possible - be prepared
River levels are expected to be high as a result of spring tides and high river flows
The forecast high tide at Richmond is 4.80mAOD at 16:00 on Friday 31st January and 4.60mAOD at 04:00 on Saturday 1st February 2025.
Flooding of low-lying roads and footpaths is expected, which may exist for one to two hours either side of high tide. Flooding of properties is not expected.
We believe there is a possibility of flooding for Putney Embankment (SW15), Chiswick Mall and Strand on the Green (W4), Thames Bank at Mortlake (SW14), Ranelagh Drive (TW1), Friars Lane and Water Lane (TW9), Riverside and The Embankment at Twickenham, and the Towpath below Teddington Lock.

We are closely monitoring the situation.

Areas affected: Groundwater flooding in Flamstead
ACTIVE
Started at: 10:32 GMT on Thu 30 January
Flooding is possible - be prepared
Groundwater levels have responded to high effective rainfall during the autumn and early winter, and have risen to very high levels at our observation borehole at River Hill, close to Flamstead. Groundwater levels are unusually high for this time of year and have now reached a level where communities are at risk of being affected by flooding from groundwater.

Due to the nature of groundwater behaviour, this situation could continue for several weeks or longer.
