The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF)
The European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) enables the authorities of the EU Member States to react quickly and in a coordinated manner to health risks posed by food and feed and to inform themselves about measures taken. Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) are also involved. The rapid alert system is managed by the European Commission in Brussels.
The Institute of Animal Nutrition and Animal Nutrition in the AGES is the competent national RASFF contact point for animal nutrition. Notifications of samples found in Austria that are harmful to health and/or the environment are reported from here to the contact point in Brussels, while feed notifications from other countries are tracked and processed. The Institute for Food Testing is the competent contact point for food, utensils and toys.
On the homepage of the European Commission you will find annual reports and weekly reports of the RASFF.
