Profile

How do I make my profile private?

With the launch of our new Community, a public list of your Community activity is temporarily unavailable, eliminating the need for a private profile.  Your profile pop-up only shows your screen name, profile picture, number of posts and comments, and the month and year you joined.

How do I add or change a profile photo?

To add or change a profile photo:

  • Tap your avatar in the top right corner.
  • Tap My Community Profile under the Profile heading.
  • Tap the gear icon, and then select Edit Profile.
  • Tap on the camera icon on your current avatar, and then upload your preferred photo from your device.
  • Tap the Save button below your bio and signature. 

A confirmation message will show for a few seconds.

How do I add or edit my signature or bio?

To add your signature or bio:

  • Tap your avatar in the top right corner.
  • Tap My Community Profile under the Profile heading.
  • Tap the gear icon, and then select Edit Profile.
  • Tap in the text box and add the text you’d like.
  • Tap Save below your bio and signature. 

A confirmation message will appear for a few seconds.

Having trouble?  Let’s rule out some common issues:

  • Signatures are limited to 100 characters and 3 lines - are you over the limit?
  • If you’re on mobile data, try a Wi-Fi connection.
  • HTML coding is no longer supported.

 


How do I send a Direct Message?

To send a Direct Message:

  • Find a post or comment by the member you’d like to message.
  • Tap their screen name.
  • Tap the 3 blue dots and select Send Message.
  • Compose a message and send.

Our messaging system works a bit differently than text messaging - you’ll need to refresh the conversation page to see any replies from the member you messaged.

Groups

How do I find a group?

How do I join a group?

Tap the Join button in any public group you’re interested in. New activity in groups you’ve joined may show on your Groups Home tab and new posts in your groups may appear in your Daily Digest email.

To join a private group, tap the Request to Join button. 

 

How do I create my own group?

To create a group:

  • Tap the three-line menu at the top left.
  • Tap Groups under the Community heading.
  • Tap Start your own group at the bottom of the page.
  • Decide if you’d like your group to be public or private - it can’t be changed later!
  • Fill out the form and tap Create Group; you’ll then be taken to your group.

To invite members to your group:

  • Copy the link to your group - use a desktop or mobile browser as this is not yet available on our app.
  • Find a post or comment by the member you’d like to invite.
  • Tap on their screen name.
  • Tap the 3 blue dots and select Send Message.
  • Compose a message, add your group URL, and send.

If your group is private, you’ll need to go back to your group and approve anyone who has requested membership. Here’s how:

From your group’s page, you’ll see a red circle by the 3 blue dots, indicating you have a request

  • Tap the 3 blue dots.
  • Tap Pending requests, which will take you to the Pending requests page.
  • Tap the 3 blue dots next to the person’s screen name, and then tap approve.

Note: if you do not see the Create your own group link, try again later, or email us at community@babycenter.com with questions.

 

How do I add an owner to a group?

To add another Group Owner to your group:

  • Tap the blue info circle on your group’s main page.
  • Tap the link to the group members.
  • Search or browse to find the member you’d like to promote to Group Owner.
  • Tap the 3 blue dots next to their name and select Promote to Group Owner.
  • Tap Promote Member on the pop-up.

You’ll now see the member listed in the Group Owner section of the page.

 

How do I delete a group?

 To delete a group you own:

  • Tap the 3 blue dots on your group’s main page.
  • Tap Report.
  • Explain that you’d like your group to be deleted in the Comments box.

We’ll contact you to help you close your group.

 

How do I leave a group?

To leave a group, tap the 3 dots on the group’s main page, and tap Leave Group.

You’ll no longer see group updates on your Community homepage or Daily Digest.

 

How do I find a list of all my groups?

Here you’ll see the list of all groups you belong to. Or:

  • Tap the three-line menu.
  • Tap Groups.
  • Tap the Groups tab to see the list of all groups you belong to.

 

How do I contact a Group Owner?

To report a post or comment to Group Owners:

  • Tap the grey flag in the bottom right corner of the content you’d like to report.
  • Select the type of abuse.
  • Select whether you’d like your report to go to Community staff, Group Owner or Both.
  • Add a comment describing your reason for reporting. Give as much information as possible to help us understand what's happening.
  • Tap Continue to submit your report.

To send a message to a Group Owner:

  • Find one of their posts or comments in the group, or tap on the blue info icon at the top of the group page. 
  • Tap on their screen name; this will bring up a box with the Group Owner’s profile.
  • Tap the 3 blue dots and select Send Message.
  • Compose a message and send.

 

Posting

How do I post a new discussion in a group?

To post you’ll need a screen name - you’ll be prompted to create one if you haven’t already.  Once you have a screen name and are ready to post:

  • Tap the blue Post button at the top of the group.
  • Add a title and your message.
  • Tap the blue Create Post button.

Your post will appear immediately in the group.

How do I post a picture or GIF in a discussion?

To add a picture or GIF to a post or comment:

  • Download the image or GIF you’d like to use to your device.
  • Tap the blue camera icon and select the image you’d like to add.
  • Submit your post or comment.

Account & Settings

How do I change my password?

To change your password:

  • Tap your avatar in the top right corner.
  • Select Personal Info under the Settings heading.
  • Log in again and then change your password on your Account Details page.
  • Tap Save at the bottom of the page.

If you don’t remember your password and need help, you can visit the Forgot Password page or use Contact Us.

How do I change my screen name?

Once you've chosen a screen name, it can’t be changed, so choose well! If you want a different screen name, you can create a new account.  Need help? Contact Us.

How do I close my community account?

We’re sorry to see you go!

To close your account:

  • Tap Contact Us at the bottom of the page.
  • Select Close My Account from the drop-down menu, and fill out the form.
  • Submit your request.

Your account will be closed within three business days.

Closing your community account does not remove your content. You may remove your own content before requesting your account closure. If you’re unable to remove your content yourself, please report it to us by tapping on the grey flag in the bottom right corner of each comment. Select Community staff and let us know you’d like your content removed. 

Please note: If you place content on our site, public or private, we are not obligated to remove it.

What should I do if I see something that violates the Guidelines?

Community posts, comments, groups, messages, and profiles can be reported.  Here’s how to report:

Post and comments

  • Tap the grey flag at the lower right of the content you wish to report.
  • Select the type of abuse.
  • Select whether you’d like your report to go to Community staff, Group Owner or Both.
  • Add details about why you’re reporting in the Comment box.
  • Tap Continue to submit your report.

Messages

  • Tap the 3 dots from the message.
  • Tap Report user.
  • Select the type of abuse.
  • Add details about why you’re reporting in the Comment box.
  • Tap Continue to submit your report.

Reporting from a message reports the profile to Community staff.

Profiles  

  • Tap the screen name from any post or comment.
  • Tap the 3 dots.
  • Tap Report user.
  • Select the type of abuse.
  • Add details about why you’re reporting in the Comment box.
  • Tap Continue to submit your report.

Profile reports go to Community staff only.

Groups

To report a group:

  • Go to the group’s main page.
  • Tap the 3 dot menu.
  • Tap Report Group.
  • Select the type of abuse.
  • Add details about why you’re reporting in the Comment box.
  • Tap Continue to submit your report.

Group reports go to Community staff only.

Once you’ve submitted your report,  we’ll investigate and take appropriate steps to resolve the situation. If something that concerns you doesn’t have a report option, email the link and text of the item to community@babycenter.com.

 

Who are the BabyCenter Staff?

You can identify BabyCenter staff by the BabyCenter Staff label under our screen names, and our staff badges in our posts and comments. Learn more about our team here!

How do I contact the BabyCenter Staff?

From bugs to bad behavior, we’re here for you!  Ask questions about using our Community in the Friends of BabyCenter Group, Contact Us or email us at community@babycenter.com.

Is the Community moderated?

The BabyCenter Community is moderated by a team of paid BabyCenter staff members. Our team helps keep our Community a friendly and supportive place for you to share experiences and ideas.  We investigate abuse reports, help members understand our Community Guidelines, and take appropriate steps when our guidelines are violated.  Staff members display both a BabyCenter Staff label under their screen name as well as a staff badge so we’re easy to spot in our Community.

In addition to paid staff, the Community is also moderated by volunteer members called Group Owners. While Group Owners chip in to create or manage groups, they’re not employed by BabyCenter and are subject to the same guidelines and terms of use as any other member.  Group Owners only have the ability to remove posts and comments in their own groups.  Our volunteers are designated by Group Owner titles displayed below their screen names, easily visible from their posts and comments.
