Phoenix Suns complete new head coach Mike Budenholzer’s coaching staff with the hiring of Schuyler Rimmer.

The Suns officially announced Budenholzer’s staff Tuesday — Chad Forcier, David Fizdale, Vince Legarza, Mike Hopkins, Brent Barry, James Posey, Chaisson Allen and Rimmer.

Budenholzer was hired in May to replace Frank Vogel, who was fired after one season. The Suns went 49-33 under Vogel, but the Minnesota Timberwolves swept them in the first round.

Sources had informed The Republic that the Suns were having a hard time filling out their coaching staff as they’re still paying Vogel. Fizdale is the only holdover from Vogel's staff.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, left, is aided by assistant video coordinator Schuyler Rimmer before their game against the Chicago Bulls at Fiserv Forum.

Budenholzer coached the Milwaukee Bucks to the 2020-21 NBA championship when they defeated Phoenix in six games. The Bucks fired him two seasons later, but Budenholzer has returned to his home state to coach the Suns.

Rimmer worked as a player development assistant under Budenholzer in Milwaukee (2018-22) and in Atlanta as an assistant video coordinator in 2017-18. He was elevated to an assistant coach/player development in his final season in Milwaukee in 2021-22.

Rimmer spent the last two seasons working as an assistant for the Los Angeles Lakers under Darvin Ham, who was an assistant under Budenholzer in Milwaukee and Atlanta. The Lakers fired Ham after his second season and hired JJ Redick.

Rimmer’s first name is pronounced SKY-luhr.
