The Access Language Arts: WRITE Curriculum provides a blended approach to writing instruction delivered through traditional print components, software, and an iPad app. Students are supported step by step in constructing grade-aligned opinion paragraphs about eight adapted pieces of literature, including fiction and nonfiction literature from the Teaching to Standards: English Language Arts. Access Language Arts: WRITE incorporates components of systematic instruction that include the constant time-delay procedure, the system of least intrusive prompts, and prompting with specific feedback.
The new Instructor’s Guide provides scripted lessons that focus on writing terminology (topic, introduction, opinion, reason, conclusion) and students’ construction of opinion paragraphs. Extension lessons and ideas related to writing terminology and additional forms of written expression (e.g., descriptive, expository, persuasive, and narrative) are provided to allow teachers to differentiate and extend the ALA: WRITE lessons. In addition, a graphic organizer provides a visual support for students during writing lessons by color-coding each component of the paragraph. Students use their own consumable Student Workbooks with leveled graphic organizers to create and record their opinion paragraphs.
Researched and proven effective in secondary classrooms, this program may be incorporated into the implementation of Teaching to Standards: ELA, or used as a stand-alone to achieve standards-aligned skills in both reading and writing.
The Curriculum includes an Instructor’s Guide, a Graphic Organizer Student Book, a consumable Graphic Organizer Student Workbook, a consumable Extension Student Workbook, a Graphic Organizer Poster, Story Grammar Cards, Writing Terminology Cards, Story Vocabulary Cards, laminated sentence strips, downloadable digital files for printing or whiteboard, and the Access Language Arts: WRITE software and iPad app.
The Curriculum Plus includes everything in the Curriculum plus a total of 10 consumable Graphic Organizer Student Workbooks, 10 consumable Extension Student Workbooks, the entire page set of workbook pages as accessible GoWorksheets (iPad only), and samples of communication overlays. The GoWorksheets can be used with the free GoWorksheet app or the full GoWorksheet Plus app available on the App Store.
