Mythology Behind Archetype Moon:

According to the mythology, Moon or Chandra is believed to have emerged from the cosmic ocean when it was churned by Devas (angels) and Asuras (demons). According to Markandeya Purana, the Moon is the son of sage Atri and his wife Anasuya, through the divine blessing of Lord Brahma.

There are many legends associated with the Moon’s family. In one such legend, he marries the twenty-seven daughters of King Daksha, who symbolize the 27 stars (Nakshatras) in astrology. When Moon adored only Rohini out of his 27 wives, the others went ahead and complained to Daksha, who in turn cursed the Moon to lose all his powers. Upon worshipping Lord Shiva, the Moon was partially relieved from the curse, but, will be going through waxing and waning cycles.

Due to his intelligence and brilliance, Moon was offered the status of a planet. He is also considered as one of the Devas and referred as Soma in ancient texts.
