A Wall Street Journal bestseller.
When Trump’s first Deputy National Security Advisor left Washington, she disappeared from sight. Now former government official and political commentator KT McFarland returns with tenacity, resolve, and the truth about the Trump Administration and those seeking to destroy it.
For decades, KT McFarland has been one of the country’s most prominent conservative foreign policy experts. She was part of the Trump Revolution from the beginning. As Trump’s first Deputy National Security Advisor, she had a seat at the table for everything: Trump’s unconventional campaign and upset victory; his throw-out-the-rule-book Trump Tower Transition; the chaotic first months in the West Wing; the unusual events surrounding General Flynn’s firing; and the sprawling Mueller investigation.
In Revolution, she walks the reader through the Washington Establishment’s relentless efforts to destroy Trump, populism, and nationalism in order to keep their own hands on the levers of power. The Trump Revolution, like the Reagan Revolution and all the anti-Establishment political revolutions before it, will ultimately prevail. It is this ability to reinvent ourselves, not just as individuals but as a society, that lies at the heart of American Exceptionalism.
When McFarland left the Trump Administration and Washington, she disappeared from public view and refused to discuss her experiences. Now, for the first time, McFarland tells a story that reads more like a political thriller than a tour through this unique moment in history. Written with unusual candor, with insights into Trump and his inner circle, Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong-un, McFarland’s book is destined to become a classic.
If you only read one book about the Age of Trump, make it Revolution: Trump, Washington and “We the People.”

Review
"KT McFarland has personal insider knowledge of how big the fight for freedom is and how dangerous the opponents of freedom both inside the United States and outside are to all of us. An Important testimony to the great struggle of our times." -- Newt Gingrich, Former Speaker of the House
"Over the years KT McFarland has had the courage to challenge conventional wisdom on foreign policy, and has almost always been right. In this book she sounds the alarm about the strategic, technological and economic threats posed by an aggressive, rising China, and lays out what America can do about it." -- Matt Schlapp, Chairman of American Conservative Union
"KT McFarland is an exceptional student, writer, and professional warrior. She had the extraordinary experience of learning from the masters of foreign policy and defense in the Nixon and Reagan presidencies, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and Defense Secretary Cap Weinberger and the others that mattered. She's a pro's pro! She watched it up close; learned the lessons of diplomacy, both the successes and the failures, and was prepared to offer that experience to the new Trump White House. She now shares those lessons with you the reader. If 'in the room decision making' interests you, this is a must read!" -- Ed Rollins, Former White House Assistant to President Reagan, National Campaign Director Reagan-Bush '84
"KT McFarland has been focused on the national security interests of the United States since her time as a young aide to Dr. Henry Kissinger. She has never stopped studying how to protect the U.S. since that time, through her time advising President Trump's 2016 campaign and setting up its national security shop and in her distinguished media career before and after. Now comes her account of the 'Revolution' we are all living through. 'The Washington elites were stunned by Trump's victory,' McFarland writes in the opening pages of this eyewitness account. If they want to get over their shock while also recognizing the growing perils to the country from abroad, this timely important book is the place for them—and all Americans—to start." -- Hugh Hewitt, Nationally Syndicated Radio Talk Show Host, President of the Richard Nixon Foundation
“KT McFarland has been at the center of Republican foreign policymaking for decades, starting in the 1970s when she first worked on the National Security Council, continuing through the Reagan Administration, Fox News, and then as President Trump’s first Deputy National Security Advisor. Well written and perceptively argued, Revolution provides interesting insights into the beginning stages of Trump’s foreign policy and the reasoning behind it.”
-- Henry A. Kissinger, Former Secretary of State

An extremely well written book which goes into great detail on the subject matter in each chapter. There are chapters on the reason that she joined the Trump Revolution, Washington's Failed Economic and Foreign Policy, The Real Donald Trump, China First, America First, Impeachment, and We've Always had Revolutions....just to name a few.
The reason I found this a fascinating read is that the author places the blame on both the Democrats and the Republican parties...when justified....and goes into great detail with the explanations. After 9/11 both President Bush and Obama added workers to the federal workforce and the expansion of national security added '50 billion dollars a year' to the budget. Several more instances of both parties being responsible are in the text.
The writing is clear and concise and, as a reader, I appreciate that aspect. The chapter on Elitists and Populists was educational for me to read. One of the chapters that offered me an outstanding explanation was the one that covered our various conflicts overseas....Afghanistan and the Taliban, Iraq and Syria. The author has her finger on the pulses of those regions and her explanations of the reasons we can't win ring so true with me. Her trip to the Bamiyan Valley proves her point exceptionally well.
The chapter on 'We've Always Had Revolutions' was educational to me, as well. She delineates the four traits that are common in each of those occurrences. So interesting to read.
As she states near the end 'we need to remember what unites us'...I couldn't agree more.
This is an informative, educational, well written book based on the author's years of experience and backed up with facts. Doesn't get any better than that for me.
Most highly recommended.
Page 74, the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs explained socialism vs capitalism with a pie analogy that made it a very simple concept to describe to my liberal friends, who had not experienced the failure of socialism in Great Britain in the 1970's as I had done.
I thoroughly enjoyed her chapter on " China First" that gave a great overview of the historic and economic issues we face with China. I think the average American needs to know a lot more about the China threat. Pages 96 & 97 where she discusses their "Silk Road" to Europe is scary, stating that China is working with 70 nations to build highways, rail and new cities, all with Chinese loans and by Chinese workers. If they fail to make payments, China will take over the assets and control the area. She used the analogy with the Roman Empire. Equally fascinated, I devoured the chapter on Russia and Putin.
Reading about KT MacFarland's 5 decades of experience in National Security and Foreign Policy has been an eye opener. I appreciated she gave credit or blame with equal measure where due to either political party, with a broader perspective that we need so badly.
She inspired me, educated me, and gave me faith in the American Dream, leading by example in her personal and professional life. We need more leaders like KTMacFarland!

„He has been a boss, mentor and friend for decades, beginning with my first job in Washington, when I was a freshman at George Washington University in 1970. It continued through my years at Oxford and MIT, during the Reagan Administration, while I was in cable news and coming full circle when I joined the Trump Administration – in the same West Wing office that I had started working in 45 years before.“ (Statement of K.T. McFarland, Nominee to be U.S. Ambassador to Singapore, Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, July 20, 2017)
„Trump’s upset election was a shock to everyone, including the Trump campaign. The early days were chaotic, as campaign officials transformed into a government-in-waiting. It was filled with first-timers to government who inevitably made rookie mistakes.“
„Turns out the entire Russian investigation was a sham, and Obama administration officials knew it from the get-go.“ („Russia hoax – Obama team's shocking abuse of power“, Fox News, May 28, 2020)
„The fact that the Obama administration targeted Flynn isn’t just a crime against him, but a crime against our constitutional system.“ („6 Ways The Obama Administration Railroaded The Rule Of Law To Destroy Michael Flynn“, The Federalist, May 20, 2020)
„They gave me the distinct impression after … 20, 30, 40 hours of hell that they wanted me to either plead guilty to a crime I didn’t feel I committed, or to talk about other people having done things that I didn’t think they had done“, erklärte sie in dem eingangs zitierten Interview.
„You can’t do that.
„I was told that several Democrat staff members bragged, ‘We’re never going to let her be confirmed!’ When I heard from a reporter that yet another Democrat staffer joked, ‘The only way that K.T. McFarland is getting to Singapore is if she swims,’ I decided I had finally had enough. I was tired of being a plaything for Democrat senators and their staffers.“
„When I wrote this book, and I had my experience in Washington, in the Trump administration and then with the Mueller investigation, I left the country afterwards, because I was just devastated. I mean, I couldn’t figure out, what’s going on in my country? Why is everybody fighting with everybody all the time? And so what I concluded was that, well, America’s in the middle of a revolution, a political revolution, and that we’re meant to have a political revolution. That’s how America regenerates itself.“ („Communist China Using George Floyd Protests for Propaganda: K.T. McFarland“, The Epoch Times, June 4, 2020)
