About the authors
Michael Watkins coaches C-level executives of global organizations and is founder of Genesis Advisers (www.genesisadvisers.com), a global leadership development consultancy specializing in transition acceleration for leaders, teams and organizations. He is also Professor of Leadership and Organizational Change at the IMD Business School where he teaches a popular Virtual First 90 Days Open Program for leaders in transition (www.imd.org/f90d). He has spent the last two decades working with executives - both corporate and public – to help them craft their legacies as leaders and is ranked among the leading management thinkers globally by Thinkers50 (2019).
Watkins is author of the international bestseller The First 90 Days Updated and Expanded: Proven Strategies for Getting Up to Speed Faster and Smarter, aptly dubbed “The Onboarding Bible” by The Economist. With over a million copies sold in English and translations in 24 languages, The First 90 Days is the classic reference for leaders in transition and a standard learning and development resource for executive onboarding. Amazon named it one of its top 100 business books of all time.
Prior to joining IMD, Watkins was a member of faculty at INSEAD, Harvard Business School and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where he designed and taught world-class programs for high-potential leader development, corporate diplomacy, and strategic negotiation.

We are providing this book for all our successful job candidates.
The focus of this book is to help new manage successfully navigate the first six months of an assignment. It begins with the fuzzy beginnings, when job candidate and recruiter first talk with each other.
The Tables beginning on pages 134 are quite useful.
When two authors write a book together, a reader should have the right to expect a duet unless the authors explicitly state otherwise.
The book suffers lack of coordination between the authors.
Chapters 8,9,10 are written in a different voice and lack the practical, time- sensitive punch of the first half of the book.
Indeed Chapters 8, 9, 10 don't appear to be written from the perspective of the reader of this book. It is more like a major cut-and-paste job from a Management 101 text, with superficial references to earlier chapters. The reality is that Chapters 8,9, and 10 could have been easily deleted from the entire book.

I judge how good a book is by if I take action as a result. And I did take action. I did a simple one page description for my new direct reports on "working with Jim".
It reaffirmed the need to vision. Of course I knew that but it really reinforced it.
It also talked a lot about politics which can be very tough. Not like nice hard numbers.
A must read for any new CEO.

Amazon needs to take seriously the buyers that come to its online stores and remove such eBooks if they are only a 9 page summary.
Disgusted and will buy from another online provider.
