Danny Freeman is a chef and content creator known for his colorful and creative takes on fresh pasta and Italian cooking. He fell in love with pasta making after attempting one of his grandmother’s recipes but quickly veered from the traditional and began making pasta in bright colors and original shapes. After posting videos of his pasta creations online, he gained a devoted following and developed his signature style of colorful, joyful, and delicious food. His work has been featured by Good Morning America, The Rachael Ray Show, Teen Vogue, Buzzfeed, and more, and his videos have been viewed hundreds of millions of times. A graduate of Tufts University and Columbia Law School, he was a legal services lawyer before becoming a pasta chef. Danny lives in New York’s Hudson Valley with his husband and their daughter. This quickly became one of my favorite cookbooks. I’ve always been interested in making my own pastas and have spent hours fawning over Danny’s TikTok videos just hoping one day I could make my own pasta too. I was so excited when he announced the cookbook.

Danny easily and simply breaks down every step of making pasta. His words are so kind and soothing to read as you’re scrambling with sticky hands and eggs running everywhere. He explains every tool and ingredient in simple words without making you feel like an idiot. He does an amazing job at explaining and writing recipes in an accessible way by offering alternatives to ingredients or tools and making it very clear from the start that you don’t need anything fancy to make your own pasta.

The step by step pictures provided in the book are absolutely gorgeous and he offers a multitude of fun and interesting design recipes to bring your pasta to the next level.

I have a few "pasta mastery" books but this one takes the cake. I'm not a chef, I'm a home cook, and this book was made for people like me. The directions and explanations are easy to understand, the recipes are all made with the home-cook in mind- I can make almost every sauce/pasta with items I have already or any store will stock, and if a special ingredient is called out the author suggests places to order.

I was always intimidated to try more "advanced" pastas amd techniques from other books (written by Michelin star chefs) simply because they looked so complicated, but this book takes all the fear out of pasta making- I truly feel like I'm in their kitchen with them, chatting about life and rolling gnocchi.

The book is physically very well made. Thick hardcover, bright pictures, durable and wipable pages.
