From 28 October 2024, we'll be switching off our 3G network. This allows us to offer a better experience for our 4G services, as well as support the growth of 5G technology.

If you have a device that is not able to make Triple Zero (000) calls, amaysim is legally required to stop these mobile phones from accessing the Optus mobile network. This means you will not be able to make or receive calls/texts or use data on the Optus mobile network from this date. 

If your device doesn’t work with our 4G network or relies on 3G network for emergency calls, then you won't be able to make an emergency call to Triple Zero (000).

To ensure you still have access, we strongly recommend you upgrade your device. 

Note: Unless your call is for a legitimate emergency, DO NOT call Triple Zero (000) to test your device.  

Your account has not been deactivated. Simply switch your SIM to a 4G/5G-compatible device and your service will resume. There is no need to reactivate.

Some 4G devices still use the 3G network for voice calls and will be impacted by the 3G shutdown. Your device needs to be 4G/5G-compatible with the 700MHz (LTE Band 28) and VoLTE. Check with your device manufacturer.

Your mobile services will not work on that device. Your plan will remain active, however you will need to upgrade your phone.

The Optus 3G network is switching off and you are using a 3G impacted phone which is not supported on the Optus 4G/5G network.

For your safety you must upgrade to a phone that is supported on the 4G/5G network and can make calls to Triple 000 once the 3G network is switched off.

The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) has launched www.3Gclosure.com.au to provide Australians with the key facts and information they need to prepare for the upcoming 3G network closures.

VoLTE stands for Voice over LTE and allows voice calls over the 4G network. Ensure your device supports VoLTE and check your settings.

700MHz (LTE Band 28) ensures your device remains compatible with the network.

Some 4G devices still use 3G for calling emergency services, which will be affected.

If you purchased your 5G phone in Australia, it will not be affected and will continue to work as usual.
