Import Promotion Desk (IPD) - the German initiative for import promotion
IPD arranges sustainable trade contacts in selected partner countries - neutrally and free of charge
The international purchase of products, raw materials or services is time-consuming and cost-intensive, and contact with unknown producers or service providers is always risky.
This is why IPD - as an initiative to promote imports - supports German and European companies in their international sourcing and opens up new supply sources in selected partner countries. This enables them to diversify their procurement management and establish long-term trade contacts.
IPD examines companies and their offerings with a view to European standards and connects buyers together with carefully evaluated producers and service providers.
IPD product groups
IPD specifically promotes the purchase of products and services for which there is a high demand on the German or European market.
The focus is on these product groups:
- Fresh produce
- Natural ingredients for food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics
- Sustainable fish & seafood
- Cut flowers
- Sustainable tourism

IPD´s service in 3 steps

IPD continuously identifies suppliers and service providers in its partner countries. In doing so, IPD works closely with export promotion organisations in the respective countries.
The potential business partners are visited by IPD experts and selected according to strict IPD criteria. Only companies that meet the high IPD requirements are accepted into the programme.

IPD is active in countries in Africa, Asia, South America and Eastern Europe and is constantly reviewing its product range in new partner countries.

A strong partner initiative
IPD is an initiative of the German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services Association (BGA e.V.) and sequa gGmbH - the development organisation of German industry. IPD is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
As part of the "Partners in Transformation - Business & Development Network", IPD supports socio-ecological and feminist economic transformation in the partner countries.
The aim is to integrate companies into global trade and contribute to sustainable economic development in the partner countries. At the same time, IPD supports the German import industry in diversifying its procurement management. IPD thus forms an important interface between development cooperation and foreign trade.
