Nepal’s Expectation

  • Anyone can add to the Waze Nepal map, however please refer to the Nepal Wiki for the official definitions of terms and regulations as well as the requirements for mapping in Nepal. The global Wiki will have all the rules and guidelines that aren't addressed here.
  • We periodically update criteria for which you should be aware. The Nepal forums or Waze Nepal Discord server typically have notifications including changes as well as other messages.
  • Any changes made are intended to improve the quality of the map for Waze app users. If your edit will not provide value, it is not welcome.
  • If you're unsure or uncertain, consult this wiki, post a question on the forums or Discord, or speak with your editing mentor. Avoid making any edits that could potentially harm the map.
  • Every volunteer Waze editor needs to understand they are working as a part of a larger team, all working towards the same goal. It is therefore crucial we work together, and not against each other.
  • A component of collaboration is communication - for example, reading and replying to forum comments and emails, visiting the forum to check news and announcements, attending discussions on Discord, providing and receiving feedback, and working with local area, state and country managers.
  • Do not take over a section or area that is currently being worked on. Check the segment timestamps and check for map comments (turn on the layer in WME). Contact other editors first to ensure you're not jeopardizing their work. You can contact them by forum PM or the Discord server.
  • You do not copy external data or information from other data sources (maps, websites, etc.) unless it meets Waze’s TOS.
  • When you edit a segment, you become responsible for ensuring it is correct and complete. Make sure:
    • The segment position and angles are realistically mapped
    • The segment is connected correctly to other segments
    • A name, city and state is applied, where known
    • Check turns to other segments are correct
    • Speed limits are applied properly
    • It is locked to the correct level
    • Lane guidance is applied, where applicable.

Your edits are public for everybody to see, in addition to active monitoring by area, state and country managers. If you do not achieve these criteria, you may anticipate contact via forum private message or on the Waze Nepal Discord server. Rapid improvement is necessary, or the Nepali management team may be obliged to take action against your account to remove privileges, rank, editing area, and editing skills. Sanctions against your account will follow you in any country you edit in.

Points, Ranks and Roles

When you use the Waze client app or the Waze Map Editor, Waze keeps track of it with points system. You get different amounts of points for different things you do. The number of points you have is compared to the number of points other Waze users have to give you a rank. Wazers who edit the map have an editor rank and a count of edits they have made.

Editors with a lot of experience may also be given a job in the community, such as Area Manager (AM), State Manager (SM), Country Manager (CM), Local Champion (LC), or Global Champion (GC). You may also be connected with a Mentor who can assist you as a new editor.

Editing Roads

Nepal's road network differs from that of the rest of the world. For example, there are fewer motorways than you might expect in Europe or America. Furthermore, the majority of minor roads, including some major ones, are unpaved. As a result, some guidelines have been established for categorizing various roads based on Nepali characteristics.

Before editing the Nepal road network, we recommend that you read the following pages.
