Mission

The U.S. Army Institute for Religious Leadership (USA-IRL), Fort Jackson, South Carolina is the “Heart and home” of the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps. Our mission is to generate and develop Area of Concentration (AOC)/Career Management Field (CMF) 56 Soldiers and capabilities to provide religious support and advisement across the full range of military operations to the total force.

School

The “School” aspect of USA-IRL refers to the Directorate of Training and Leader Development.  This office is responsible for the development, management and delivery for all institutional training and professional education for Army Chaplains and Religious Affairs Specialist. The Directorate executes numerous courses every year to produce religious support professionals capable of serving a diverse force in any environment under any conditions.

The Directorate is organized into two major branches: the Initial Military Training (IMT) Branch and the Professional Military Education (PME) Branch.
