Bis auf Robin (Cobie Smulders) haben alle Lust auf die von Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) vorgeschlagene Wrestlingshow. Als Harry Lashley tot im Bürogebäude seines extrem reichen Schwiegervaters gefunden wird, sollen Patrick und seine Kollegen den Fall klären. Da Harry in der Nähe eines 50 Millionen teuren Bildes gefunden wurde, das plötzlich verschwunden ist, schließt sich auch der Kunstfälscher Rob Wallace den Ermittlungen an. Schnell hat Patrick die ersten Verdächtigen im Visier.
Ein nigerianischer Student und eine Anwaltsgehilfin wurden offenbar Opfer eines Ritualmordes, der von einem Anhänger der Vodun-Religion verübt wurde. Beckett und Castle müssen sich bei ihren Ermittlungen mit gefälschter Markenware, illegalen Einwanderern und einem unberechenbaren ehemaligen Kindersoldaten auseinandersetzen. Castle sieht sich zudem damit konfrontiert, dass seine Exfrau Meredith wieder nach New York zurückziehen will.
Brennans Buch ist erschienen, da werden einige darin beschriebene Morde ziemlich exakt kopiert. Zunächst tappt sie mit ihren Nachforschungen im Dunkeln, bis sie nach einem Einzeltäter Ausschau hält.
Eine Scheidungsanwältin für reiche Frauen wurde mit einem Eispickel erstochen. In ihrer Hand hielt sie die Adresse von Robert Garrison. Der berichtet Beckett und Castle, dass er die Juristin am Abend zuvor getroffen hatte und sie in einem aktuellen Fall beraten sollte. Doch er kennt keine Details, weshalb die Liste der Verdächtigen lang ist. Unterdessen müssen Beckett und Castle auch private Probleme lösen: Castles Ex-Frau ist wieder bei ihm eingezogen.
