Houston Methodist and Rice University Center for Neural Systems Restoration Inaugural Fall Symposium World-renowned physicians and scientists will gather at the Houston Methodist Research Institute September 17-18, 2024, to discuss pioneering research discoveries and technologies in neuroscience that have the potential to transform the field and evolve into innovative treatments for neurological disorders of all kinds. The two-day event is open to all researchers, clinicians, residents, fellows and medical students interested in neuroprosthetics and neural restoration. Lumbar Spine Research Society 2025 Research Grants
The Lumbar Spine Research Society’s mission is currently soliciting letters of intent for 2025 Research Grants and will be awarding up to $50,000 total to fund innovative projects. 2025 $10,000.00 YOUNG INVESTIGATOR GRANT: The LSRS is awarding a young investigator research grant up to $10,000. This award is available to qualified young investigators in the field of spine. A young investigator is eligible as outlined: MD/DO applicants must be within five years of completion of fellowship training at the time of application; PhD applicants must be within five years of their post-doc training. Letters of intent and subsequent applications will be reviewed by the LSRS Research Committee; the grant will be awarded based on merit. An LSRS member must be listed as an investigator on the grant project for consideration. 2025 $20,000.00 LSRS RESEARCH GRANT: The LSRS is awarding two research grants up to $20,000 to fund future, innovative project(s). These awards are available to qualified principle investigators in the field of spine. Letters of intent and subsequent applications will be reviewed by the LSRS Research Committee; the grant(s) will be awarded based on merit. The committee will be reviewing with the following criteria in mind: innovation, methodology, feasibility, and significance. An LSRS member must be listed as an investigator on the grant project for consideration. Letters of intent for these grants are accepted through October 1, 2024. Sanjiv Bhatia Pediatric Neurosurgery Global Fellowship 2024
The Joint Pediatric Neurosurgery Section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons offers the Sanjiv Bhatia Pediatric Neurosurgery Global Fellowship for senior residents and pediatric neurosurgery fellows in accredited North American neurosurgical training programs (sponsored by the AANS/CNS Pediatric Section, the ASPN and the NREF Sanjiv Bhatia HYM Fund.) The fellowship stipend is $5000 and is intended to give the recipient experience in performing surgery and research in a global setting. Preference will be given to applicants going to a training program in a Low- and Middle-Income Country (LMIC)*. Fellowships are awarded based on a competitive evaluation by a committee of the Joint Pediatric Section. Successful applicants will present data from their research collaboration at the pediatric section meeting the year following completion.
The application must include: name, current training program & training year; project mentors**, proposed site and travel dates; a statement that includes reason for participating in this fellowship and how it will enhance pediatric neurosurgical training and a plan for a research project that involves collaboration with the host institution; written permission from the applicant’s residency program director; and a letter of acceptance from host pediatric neurosurgical program. (*Excluding countries with a State department travel advisory of 3 and 4 https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories.html/ ; **US-based Pediatric section member and a proposed-site supervising neurosurgeon.) International Traveling Fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery
The Joint Pediatric Neurosurgery Section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons has established an international traveling fellowship for neurosurgeons who at the time of their application are either training in a residency program outside the United States and Canada, or who have completed residency training outside the United States and Canada within the past five years. The fellowship will cover the traveling and living expenses for a three-month period to be spent observing the activities of an established Pediatric Neurosurgical service of the applicant’s choosing in the United States or Canada. Fellowships will be awarded yearly on the basis of a competitive evaluation by a committee of the Pediatric Section at the annual meeting in December. The maximum fellowship stipend is $7500.
The application must include: a statement defining the purpose of the proposed fellowship; a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s current Neurosurgical program director; a letter of acceptance from the institution where the applicant intends to take the fellowship, confirming the description of the fellow’s potential activities during the period of the award; and the applicant’s current Curriculum Vitae. Resident Traveling Fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery
The Joint Pediatric Neurosurgery Section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons has established a traveling fellowship for residents in accredited North American neurosurgical training programs. The fellowship is intended to cover the traveling and living expenses for one month for a resident who wishes additional experience in Pediatric Neurosurgery during residency. The one-month fellowship can be spent at any pediatric neurosurgery program within North America to pursue an activity which broadens the resident’s exposure to Pediatric Neurosurgery, including observation at a clinical or research center, participation in a research project, or any other relevant activity. Two fellowships per year are awarded on the basis of a competitive evaluation by a committee of the Joint Pediatric Section. The maximum fellowship stipend is $2500.
The application must include: a statement defining the purpose of the proposed fellowship; written permission from the applicant’s residency program director to pursue the one-month fellowship if it is awarded; a letter of acceptance from the Pediatric Neurosurgical program where the applicant will seek the fellowship; and the applicant’s current CV. Clinical Fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery
The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery is pleased to offer an exceptional one-year ACPNF-accredited clinical fellowship in Pediatric Neurosurgery. Clinical experience is primarily given at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. Oklahoma Children’s Hospital is a 246-bed free-standing children’s hospital; the only free-standing children’s hospital in the state of Oklahoma servicing a pediatric population of about 1.5 million. Our fellows will attain the depth and breadth of pediatric neurosurgical cases in preparation for independent practice and an academic career. The fellow is appointed as the leader of our clinical service, functions as a junior faculty member with admissions, consultations, and surgeries posted under the name of a supervising surgeon, and carries teaching responsibilities for our medical students and residents. The fellow is offered a robust outpatient experience working with an attending surgeon. A real-time clinical database and research core facilitates investigative endeavors, publications, and presentations. Compensation and benefits commensurate with level of training. The fellow may choose to focus on craniofacial, neuro-vascular, neuro-oncology, spine, or epilepsy/functional subspecialties.
We require our fellowship applicants to register through the San Francisco Match Program, and we request at least 3 letters of recommendation (Chairman; Residency Program Director; and another faculty mentor) in addition to an updated CV. Our deadline for application is the first Friday of August in the year of the match. We anticipate starting the interview process for the following year’s fellowship in September.
