Program-Specific Admission Requirements

Educational and admission requirements vary from program to program.

Patient Care Technology/Medical Assisting

To apply for the Patient Care Technology/Medical Assisting (PCT/MA) program, applicants must submit all general admissions requirements, along with program specific requirements (including but not limited to a high school diploma or equivalent and passing the HESI® Entrance Exam). The HESI® Entrance Exam consists of Basic Math Skills and Reading Comprehension. The minimum passing score for the PCT/MA program is 50% in Math and 60% in Reading. All portions of the exam must be completed and passed during the 2-hour time limit. Equivalent ACT® scores (minimum of 19 in Math and 20 in Reading) may be substituted for the HESI® Entrance Exam. Additionally, TCAT Jackson Dual Enrollment students who have successfully completed the first level of certification in the PCT/MA program no more than two years before the planned start date are automatically eligible for full-time enrollment without taking an entrance exam. Entrance Exam scores are good for two years. Schedule the HESI® exam through our website by accessing the Quick Links option in the upper right corner. If you need additional assistance, contact TCAT Jackson’s Testing Center at 731-424-0691, ext. 110.
